As I touched on in that last blog, there are some classic landmarks you really should check out while staying in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. The Yorktown at Patriots Point is one of them.
Another is Boone Hall Plantation.
Those of you who are regulars at our Isle of Palms vacation rentals or other beach house rentals Charleston SC probably already know about Boone Hall.
It’s been the site of several momentously romantic things. These include the filming of key scenes in The Notebook, as well as Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ real-life wedding. Martha Stewart was their wedding planner. Not too shabby!
Boone Hall is a must-see for visitors to Charleston. It’s been called the most photographed plantation in America, known for its avenue of live oak trees leading to the main house. Boone Hall is located up Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant just over the Isle of Palms Connector from your luxury house on Isle of Palms. It’s a perfect day trip from your Charleston beach house. Actually, it’s not far from all our SC vacation rentals, including Folly Beach rentals Charleston.
You know that fall is here when pumpkins start showing up.
A great place to find them is at Boone Hall Plantation, which is also a working farm. It’s the site of a lot of special events and seasonal happenings. This is one of the annual favorites – not just for out-of-towners vacationing in a beach house Charleston, but for locals as well.
It’s their annual Pumpkin Patch, and it starts tomorrow – Saturday, September 30th. You can’t miss it, it’s just north up Highway 17 from the IOP Connector, over on your left. There you will find everything pumpkin and an amazing array of fun fall things to do, including:
And last but certainly not least – they have the ever-popular corn maze, all eight acres of it. This year’s design honors Coca-Cola, the sponsor. It’s a pretty complex design with two different mazes, and it’s been in the works for over two years. Here’s more on the maze: http://boonehallpumpkinpatch.com/corn-maze.php

There is something quite extraordinary going on later this week near our luxury beach house rentals SC. It combines light, art, and a local iconic landmark. More about that in a minute.
Although this is the non-primetime season for Isle of Palms vacation rentals, you could argue it’s a pretty perfect time to be here. The weather is gorgeous, ideal for going to the beach. Plus you can score some great deals on a Charleston beach house.
If you’ve been to one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC before, no doubt you have seen the massive aircraft carrier parked in Charleston’s harbor.
The USS Yorktown is a beloved institution, both locally and nationally. No visit to our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston is complete without a stop at the Patriot’s Point Naval & Maritime Museum, as it’s officially known.
The Yorktown was one of only two dozen Essex-class aircraft carriers built during World War II. Also known as the “Fighting Lady,” she earned 11 battle stars while serving in the Pacific from 1943-45. She was later modernized and went on to earn five battle stars during the Vietnam War, then later served as the recovery craft for the space mission Apollo 8. She also made an appearance on the silver screen in the famous Pearl Harbor movie, “Tora! Tora! Tora!”
The museum encompasses more than “just” the aircraft carrier. There are other military vessels to tour – the Cold War submarine Clamagore, and the WWII destroyer, Laffey, as well as numerous aircraft. The National Medal of Honor Museum is now located on board the Yorktown. And on the Patriot’s Point museum grounds is the Vietnam Experience, the only Vietnam support base camp in the United States.
When Patriot’s Point opened on January 3, 1976 to an excited crowd of 2,601 people, it was the very first time an aircraft carrier was opened as a museum. It spawned a trend that’s spread to many other cities across the globe.
Over the years, well over 10 million people have visited the Yorktown.
If you are staying in a beach house Charleston on IOP or one of our other luxury beach house rentals SC, you’d be wise to visit the Yorktown this week. Actually, you don’t even have to pay admission or board the ship to have a neat experience and see it in a new light, so to speak.
The world renowned light artist Gerry Hofstetter has come all the way from his native Switzerland to create the latest installment of his “Light Art Grand Tour USA.”
In this rather incredible art project, he is travelling to all 50 states. He’s selected one national monument or landmark in each state, and he projects dramatic light images onto them using four large projectors. A team of photographers then photograph and film the resulting light show. They are producing a documentary on the project.
He will be projecting his images on the Yorktown this coming Thursday evening, from 8:00 till 10:00 p.m. There is no charge, and even parking will be free at Patriot’s Point.
Here’s more on the story from the Post & Courier, which also has additional photos.
All of this is located on the Mount Pleasant side of the harbor. It’s a very convenient drive from your luxury house on Isle of Palms or any of our SC vacation rentals. Here’s the official website: https://www.patriotspoint.org/
So check out something cool you won’t see again, probably ever. And remember, when you are looking for rental homes South Carolina, call EP. We have the very best in luxury beach house rentals SC.

Charleston International Airport (CHS) is flying high, and soon you will have even more choices when flying to stay in a Charleston beach house.
CHS is the busiest airport in the state. According to Paul Campbell, CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, CHS is the second fastest-growing airport in the U.S. Only Love Field in Dallas is growing at a faster rate.
You can’t be named the top place to visit for the last umpteen years running without seeing some immediate effects, and growth is one of them.
Demand for SC vacation rentals is higher than ever, be they Isle of Palms luxury rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston. The rest of the nation and the world have discovered the Lowcountry. Of course a Charleston beach house makes the ideal home base for a visit here.
Such kudos and attention also have a way of spawning improvements to the travel infrastructure.
Many of the folks coming to stay in our rental homes South Carolina, either Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston, arrive here by plane. CHS, or Charleston International Airport, recently underwent a massive $200 upgrade and overhaul. The results are a marked improvement that make jetting to the Holy City more pleasant than ever.
The airport has been in the news a lot lately, as more and more airlines fly in and out of Charleston. Each time a new airline comes to Charleston we all get more options of routes to fly here, more competition, and lower airfares.
Well, it was just announced this week that yet another one will soon be offering service to CHS.
It’s Frontier Airlines, based out of Denver. Not only will they be offering some interesting nonstop destinations in and out of Charleston, they will also be offering really amazing rates. I’m talking $39 and even $34 one-way introductory fares. Frontier’s motto is “Low Fares Done Right,” and they provide customizeable ticket packages to save customers money.
Service will include:
Flights will be aboard an Airbus single-aisle A320 aircraft that seats 186 passengers..
Helen Hill, CEO of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and a board member of CHS, had this to say: “Additional access to our region from the important markets announced today gives our industry a great opportunity that we will seize. We strongly believe that Frontier Airlines will enjoy early success in Charleston.”
So, soon you’ll have even more options for getting to our luxury beach house rentals SC.
Charleston Museum has been undergoing a massive renovation, and you can see the grand unveiling of all that work this weekend.
This Saturday, September 23rd, it’s the Grand Opening of the Bunting Natural History Gallery, and it looks to be a lot of fun. Think: dinosaur bones and other cool creatures you just don’t see every day.
Here’s how they describe it:
Come celebrate the opening of The Charleston Museum’s Bunting Natural History Gallery with a special event! Get your picture taken in a set of Megalodon jaws. Stand next to a Giant Ground Sloth. Compare your wingspan with that of the largest flying bird that ever lived, Pelagornis sandersi. Be one of the first to see this new exhibit hall, with spectacular displays, fascinating fossils, animal mounts and geologic materials from the Museum’s extensive natural history collections, and unique interactive experiences. Special presentations, crafts, a face painter, a scavenger hunt and more will create a day full of learning and fun.
It’ll happen from 10:00 am till 2:00 p.m. at the Museum, located at 360 Meeting Street downtown. It’s an easy drive from your Charleston beach house. You can also check out the Charleston Farmers’ Market at Marion Square while you’re at it. Here’s the whole story: https://www.charlestonmuseum.org/news-events/the-museums-new-bunting-natural-history-gallery-a-return-to-our-roots/
So get set for new flights, and check out the revamped museum. And remember – if you are interested in booking one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC, namely a luxury house on Isle of Palms, call as far ahead as possible for the best selection.

Although technically we are past peak season for SC vacation rentals, the weather is absolutely gorgeous this week, and there’s an abundance of particularly healthy things to do.
It’s a great time to book a Charleston beach house, whether it’s one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston.
One of the best investments you can make is in your health and well-being.
The good folks at the Isle of Palms have an annual event to help you along that path. It’s the IOP Community Wellness Fair, a partnership of the City of IOP, East Cooper Medical Center and Harris Teeter. It’s taking place this Friday, September 22nd, from 7:00 – 11:00 a.m.
There will be free cholesterol screening blood tests by ECMC. You’re asked to fast for 12 hours before the blood work, and to make an appointment by calling (843) 884-7031. You’re also encouraged to drink a lot of water beforehand. Organizers are providing food and beverages for you after the test.
Harris-Teeter Pharmacy will be offering flu shots. They’ll be free as long as you show an insurance or Medicare card.
Keep an eye peeled for more than 20 health professionals, specialists and wellness resource people on site to offer information, freebies and steps to a healthier, happier you.
It takes place at the IOP Rec Center in the middle of the Isle, at #24 28th Avenue. It’s convenient to all our rental homes South Carolina, especially if you’re staying in one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.
This year the South Carolina Aquarium is reprising a relatively new fun beach run/walk that will benefit sea turtles and their new Sea Turtle Care Center (turtle exhibit and hospital expansion).
It’s called the Turtle Trek 5K, and it’s happening this coming Saturday, September 23rd.
Here are the stats:
IOP County Park is located at 1 14th Avenue and is convenient to all our beach house rentals Charleston SC, especially so if you’re staying in a luxury house on Isle of Palms.
So take good care of yourself, and try a beach run. And remember, when you are looking for SC vacation rentals – especially luxury beach house rentals SC – call EP. We have the best on the beach.

Well, good news for folks coming to stay in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC. The Lowcountry dodged a major bullet with Hurricane Irma, one of the worst storms on record. We got rain and wind, a little storm surge in some areas, a few limbs and leaves down, but all in all the islands around Charleston came through amazingly well.
The weather right now is positively gorgeous – sunny Carolina blue skies, temp 78 degrees, just a perfect time to be in a luxury house on Isle of Palms. Plus, if you like surfing, there are some good waves out there.
There’s no shortage of wonderful charities in the Lowcountry, and they have a knack for coming up with creative ways to raise much-needed funds.
One of my personal favorites is the Charleston Animal Society, which does tireless work on behalf of abandoned, injured or abused animals.
A few years ago, they opened a state-of-the-art facility in North Charleston, which includes a massive spay/neuter clinic and very user-friendly cat and dog play areas. If you are here in one of our SC vacation rentals, either Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston, you might want to pay them a visit. Nothing like bringing home a forever friend as a great souvenir of your stay in a Charleston beach house. It’s located at 2455 Remount Road in North Charleston, off of I-26 and just north of I-526.
Many don’t know that we care for 90% of the community’s unwanted animals – many of which are seriously injured or gravely ill, and we have made remarkable strides in five years. By thinking out-of-the-box, using proven best practices from animal organizations across the nation and implementing research-based strategies, Charleston Animal Society has moved from what is known as an Annual Live Release Rate of 34% in 2007 to over a 75% Annual Live Release Rate today, which is almost unheard of in the animal welfare world. Comparatively, other parts of the state realize low live release rates ranging from 10% to 30%.
They launched “No Kill Charleston” – the most bold initiative in the Southeast, working toward the goal of becoming the region’s first no-kill shelter. It’s a lofty goal, but they are well on their way. They can also really use our help.
The good folks of the shelter cooked up a great fundraiser, and it’s proven to be so successful, it’s back again this year. It’s a calendar of smokin’ hot firefighters posing with adorable furry friends.
Firefighters are in the business of saving lives, and so is the Charleston Animal Society – so the combination makes perfect sense. In fact, this is how they put it: “Toby’s Fund provides the medical care necessary to save lives, just like our brave Firefighters do every day!”
They host an annual party to launch the next year’s new calendar. It’s one fun event. Or, as the Charleston City Paper has dubbed it, “Best Party of 2014, 2015 and 2016!”
It was supposed to be this past weekend, Saturday September 9th, but alas Irma threw a wrench into those plans. But they have rescheduled it for the end of the month, so you still have a chance to experience a party with a purpose.
Saturday night, September 30th, is the new date for the 2018 Firefighter Calendar Debut Party, where all 15 firefighter models will be revealed as they walk the runway. They’ll be officially unveiling the new calendar, and you can get yours personally signed. Also, there will be the ever-popular live date auction, sure to be a lot of fun.
In past years, news of the calendar went viral, and media from across the globe picked up the story.
Tickets are $35 general admission standing room only. At 6:00 p.m. there’s a special VIP-only party with the firefighters, 7:30 p.m. doors open, and the show starts at 8:00 and lasts till 10:30. It takes place at Memminger Auditorium downtown, a convenient drive from all our luxury beach house rentals SC.
All proceeds go toward Toby’s Fund, the shelter’s medical fund to treat injured or sick animals. This year’s sponsors include Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Kia Country of Charleston, Anson Restaurant and MIRA Winery.
So if you are here in one of our rental homes South Carolina at the end of the month, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, you really ought to consider it. It is certainly a good cause and will be a rollicking good time.

It’s not too early to book one of our SC vacation rentals for the next Cooper River Bridge Run.
Before we get to that, just a quick word about the weather. Now that we’ve passed Labor Day and peak season for Isle of Palms vacation rentals, there’s another factor when staying in a Charleston beach house this time of year. It’s the threat of the “H’ word.
Hurricane Irma is on everyone’s mind, coming as it is right on the heels of Harvey. Yesterday looked pretty grim for the Lowcountry. Thankfully, the models are looking a little better for the South Carolina coast, although the SC Governor has said that lane reversals for people who want to evacuate northward on I-26 will begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.
It’s a very serious situation that bears close watching. Stay tuned to the Weather Channel, or local Charleston stations (Live 5 News, ABC News 4, Channel 2) for the latest updates.
Here are some links: http://www.live5news.com/
Here is the IOP’s official site: http://iop.net/

They’ve chosen the official poster, and it’s a happy image based on a silkscreen print of a pelican, inspired by the view of the bridge from Shem Creek. Read Live 5 News’ take on the poster and how it was chosen.

A beach house Charleston is an ideal way to experience the race. It’s a great gathering place for your whole group, a perfect place to carb up beforehand and kick back afterwards.

Now that Labor Day has passed, it’s a great time to be in a beach house Charleston. Rates are lower, crowds are thinner, you have more choice in luxury beach house rentals, plus, CRW is here. More about that in a minute.
First up, a follow-up to that last post about donations for victims of Hurricane Harvey. I dropped off some supplies yesterday, and the big rig is HUGE! There’s plenty of room for more. They’ll be accepting donations Monday (Labor Day) from 9-4:00, Tues.- Thurs. 8-6:00, then on Friday the truck will be heading to the Salvation Army in Houston. It’s parked in front of the Exclusive Properties office at 1116 Palm Blvd, IOP… just look for the giant “Harvey Donations” sign.
In addition to that last list, they also really need: brand new underwear (for men, women, or children), cleaning supplies, bleach, rubber gloves, garbage bags.
Mel, co-owner of Exclusive Properties, had this to say Monday afternoon, after a particularly generous donation: “Sandy thank you so much for the generators and cleaning supplies ! We have a contact in Houston and they need all these items – Canned goods, non perishable food, rice, beans, rubber gloves, bleach , new underwear and T-shirts. Try not to bring sweaters and long sleeve shirts, long pants – they need clothes they can wear now in the 95 degree heat index. Great turnout today but we still have lots of room in the trailer.”
Thank you so much in advance. The need is overwhelming and real. Help us show Texas a little Lowcountry love!
One of the most popular culinary events is popping up again, and area restaurants are sure to be buzzing with activity. It’s Charleston Restaurant Week, and it’s kicking off once again tomorrow – Wednesday, September 6th – and running through Sunday, September 17th.
Sponsored by the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, it’s become a hugely popular event that takes place twice a year. CRW has proven to be a big hit with locals and visitors alike.
This year, a slew of restaurants are offering an abundance of choices guaranteed to please any palate.
If you are here in a beach house Charleston, whether it’s one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston, chances are you are going to go out to eat. You’ve gotta feed the folks in your Charleston beach house, and you might as well let someone else do it. Restaurant Week is a great way to sample some of the best the town has to offer, at prices better than ordering a la carte.
This event just gets bigger and better each time it rolls around. Charleston restaurants showing up on all sorts of prominent best-in-the-country lists doesn’t hurt, as local chefs are getting the rep of rock stars. Charleston’s culinary scene is one of the main draws for folks coming to our rental homes South Carolina, be they Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC. Lowcountry food is hot, and Charleston Restaurant Week is, too.
They’ve tweaked it a bit since years past. Instead of having three tiers of pricing ($20, $30, $40 per person for three courses), restaurants are encouraged to come up with their own specially priced event menus. It looks to be a benefit to diners, adding more flexibility as restaurants respond to what people enjoy or have asked for in the past. Some restaurants are opting for a special drink as opposed to a third-course dessert or first-course appetizer, for example.
Here is a link to the Greater Charleston Restaurant Association’s helpful webpage on the event. Each participating restaurant is listed along with a link to their special menu for Restaurant Week: http://www.charlestonrestaurantassociation.com/charleston-restaurant-week/
The webpage also links you to book a table, where possible. It’s highly recommended to make a reservation as these slots fill up FAST.
Also, they have an official free smartphone app available. It even includes a tip calculator and a parking assistant. Just search for FREE GCRA or Greater Charleston Restaurant Association in your app store.
They list participating restaurants by lunch/brunch or dinner, and by location, which makes it easy to pick a place most convenient to your luxury house on Isle of Palms or Folly Beach house Charleston. Here’s a breakdown:
Whew – that’s a whole lot of choices. Reminds me what it’s like to search for SC vacation rentals.
When you’re looking for luxury beach house rentals SC, call EP. We have the very best – and we can also recommend a really good restaurant.

If you’re here in a Charleston beach house, no doubt you’re been hearing much of the heartbreaking news coming out of Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
This storm made landfall as a Cat 4, and dropped record-breaking amounts of rainfall on huge areas of Texas and into Louisiana. The devastation is overwhelming, and estimates at damage suggest it will be as much as Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy combined.
Amid all of the tragedy, there have also been remarkable stories of heroism, of ordinary citizens jumping into action to help their fellow man. The Cajun Navy showed up in force, and the folks on their air boats and flat boats continue in the massive rescue efforts to save lives, of men and women, children, infants and pets.
The amount of help needed is more than local authorities can handle, and every little bit of outside assistance counts.
This is where you come in.
Mel and Shelley Miles, who own Exclusive Properties, decided to do something about it. Thanks to a friend with Smith Dray Lines, a big tractor trailer truck is now parked at our office. We are accepting donations for folks who have suffered due to the flooding and storm.
We’ll be accepting donations until next Friday, September 8th, when the truck will be driven to the Salvation Army in Houston, Texas. They will receive the truckload and put it to great use among those in desperate need of basic supplies.
According to the Salvation Army, they basically need everything.
They also could really use financial donations. Please make the check out to “Salvation Army of Houston,” and we will get it to them.
Let’s fill this rig!
Our office is located at 1116 Palm Boulevard, on the corner of Palm and J. C. Long Boulevard, not far from all our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.
If you have any unopened goods left over from your stay this week in a Charleston beach house, you can drop them by on your way off the island, and we’ll get them to folks in need.
The “h” word is a trigger word around these parts, as anyone who lived through Hurricane Hugo in 1989 can tell you. When staying in one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, it’s always wise to keep a close eye on the weather. Hurricane season lasts from June 1st through the end of November.
Last I checked, a powerful Hurricane Irma has formed near the Cape Verde Islands in the Atlantic. Keep updated on the latest at https://weather.com/
Also, this weekend is the Labor Day holiday. It marks the official end of peak season for our SC vacation rentals, be they Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston. Rates officially drop, and you can score some great deals on a Charleston beach house.
So help us help our friends in Texas. And remember, when you are looking for rental homes South Carolina, namely luxury beach house rentals SC, to call EP. We’ll help you find the perfect Charleston beach house.
