The BLOGS of late have been all about the holidays, and sure enough Christmas is a great time to be in one of our SC vacation rentals.  Right now the temps are balmy and the skies sunny, although the weatherman says a cold front is moving in and should make things feel a bit more Christmas-y.

Thought I’d take a break from all the red and green BLOGS to focus instead on festivals, which often play a part in when folks book their beach house rentals Charleston SC.

Charleston has no shortage of festivals.  Seems like the festival craze really kicked off in the 1970’s back when Spoleto first started, and it’s since grown into one of the world’s best arts extravaganzas that takes place each May/June.

Then there’s SEWE, the largest festival of its kind on the United States.  It happens here each February and draws more people than any single event to the Charleston area.

More recently, The Wine + Food Festival cranked up and is now considered a must-see (and must-taste) Charlestonian event.  It fills in the calendar nicely in March.

All of these are great times to be here, and there’s no better way to experience them than by staying in one of our rental homes South Carolina  –  either a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston.   If you are interested in a Charleston beach house for one of those festivals next year, it is not too early to book now.  Even though Feb/March is not peak season for beach rentals Charleston, they do tend fill up early due to such special events.  The plus side is, of course, you’ll pay less for our Isle of Palms vacation rentals than you would during peak season…and, you’re guaranteed a full calendar of fun.

A fairly recent entree on the festival scene is proving to be a real player.  It’s the Southern Ground Music & Food Festival, which has traditionally been held each year in October.

You may have noticed that it didn’t happen this fall, but there’s a good reason for that.  Organizers have decided to switch it from a fall to a spring festival, and the new dates were just announced.   The fifth annual Southern Ground will be happening the weekend of April 16th and 17th, 2016.  And tickets for the festival just went on sale this morning:  http://charleston.southerngroundfestival.com/tickets  …or you can call 1(888) 9AXSTIX  (that’s 1-888-929-7849).

Southern Ground is hosted by the Zac Brown Band, and they’ve managed to meld two very cool things  –  great music and great food.  What’s not to like about that?

They’ll start by serving up some of their favorite musicians and groups, such as:

  • Tedeschi Trucks Band
  • Thomas Rhett
  • Marshall Tucker Band
  • Hunter Hayes
  • Michael Franti & Spearhead
  • Kacey Musgraves
  • Sam Bush
  • Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers
  • A Thousand Horses
  • Old Dominion
  • Cam
  • Drake White & The Big Fire
  • Muddy Magnolias
  • Packway Handle Band
  • Coy Bowles & The Fellowship
  • Clay Cook
  • John Driskell Hopkins

Then, they sprinkle in a healthy amount of top-notch chef talent, from both near and far.  They haven’t announced the upcoming culinary lineup yet, but this was the offering last time:

  • Rusty Hamlin, Festival Executive Chef
  • Ken Vedrinski, Trattoria Lucca and Coda del Pesce
  • Patrick Owens, Langdon’s Restaurant + Wine Bar and Opal Restaurant + Wine Bar
  • RJ Cooper, Rogue 24 and Gypsy Soul, Washington DC & Fairfax VA
  • Kelly Kleisner, Oak Steakhouse and The MacIntosh

There will also be a heaping helping of not-your-run-of-the-mill food vendors on hand.

It’ll take place that Saturday and Sunday on Daniel Island, in what used to be called Blackbaud Stadium and is now known as “MUSC Health Stadium.”  For your GPS, the address is 1990 Daniel Island Drive.  It’s convenient to all our SC vacation rentals and especially our Isle of Palms luxury rentals.

Elf-Slideshow

OK  –  I can’t help but put in one more holiday event.  It’s the traveling Broadway musical version of one of the best holiday movies ever  –  ELF.  It’s going on December 22nd and 23rd at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center.  Here’s a link for show times and tickets:  http://www.northcharlestoncoliseumpac.com/events/detail/elf-the-musical
