Even if you aren’t physically sitting in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals, it doesn’t mean you can’t connect with them.  Call it a virtual vacation, if you will.  You can be sitting at an office desk in Buffalo, snow falling outside the window, and be transported to the balmy Lowcountry, where you relax in one of our SC vacation rentals, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston.

Festival season has really kicked off here in the Lowcountry, what with SEWE and the BB&T Wine + Food Festival already behind us.

If you’re here in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals this weekend, check this out…

This coming weekend is a slightly newer but also increasingly popular gathering around a single theme.  It’s a much, much older form of communicating than Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Pinterest, and yet it connects us in very cool ways.

It’s the fourth annual installment of Charleston Tells Storytelling Festival, which will bring together tale-spinners from the Lowcountry and from around the country.

The festival is sponsored by the good people of the Charleston County Public Library, and the event promises to bring stories to life that are poignant, scary, humorous, historic  –  the whole nine yards.

Events will take place on the downtown peninsula in Wragg Square, at 342 Meeting Street  –  an easy drive from all of our rental homes South Carolina, both Isle of Palms vacation rentals and Folly Beach rentals Charleston.

Charleston Tells starts Friday evening, March 11th, from 7:00-9:30.  It continues Saturday the 12th, from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m., and then resumes in the evening from 7:00 till 9:45 p.m.

Storytelling is one of those things that appeals to all ages staying in your Charleston beach house.  One great thing about coming to one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston is getting to experience authentic Lowcountry culture  –  what makes this part of the world different from anywhere else.

A big part of that is the Gullah heritage, which is based on African-American culture on the sea islands near the coast.  Think: “Porgy and Bess,” which was written here; the unique language and dialect of Gullah (which Gershwin captured so well in “Porgy”); sweetgrass baskets; and much of our Lowcountry cuisine (she-crab soup, okra gumbo).  Some of the most popular storytellers who will be performing at Charleston Tells are Gullah storytellers.  Should you decide to go, you’re in for a treat.
