As you’ve probably heard by now, Charleston is the number one place in the country to visit… for the last four years in a row.  This is according to the wise readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine, some of the most seasoned, savvy and sophisticated travelers on the planet.

As a matter of fact, Charleston just missed out being declared the best place in the WORLD to visit, losing out to Florence (Italy, not South Carolina) by the slimmest of margins.  Charleston won this lofty best-in-world title a couple years back.  All this publicity certainly is reflected in an increased demand for SC vacation rentals, namely Isle of Palms vacation rentals.

Well, now that the secret’s out about how fantastic Charleston is, it’s becoming ever easier to get here.

Charleston International Airport is currently undergoing a massive $189 million renovation, which is transforming it in a myriad of ways.  They are adding a huge skylight/clerestory windows to both Concourses A and B, five new gates on B, as well as a third baggage carousel.  The latter is set to open February 3rd.   Also, a new eight-lane security checkpoint will open this spring.   They’re also working on a completely renovated décor, better shopping and dining options that spotlight local Lowcountry specialties and businesses.  So flying into Charleston en route to a Charleston beach house, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, will be more efficient and pleasant than ever.

Several new carriers have come on board providing service to Charleston International, including Southwest and JetBlue.  Generally, the more carriers serve an airport, the more competition there is, leading to lower fares and more convenient schedules and options for the consumer.

GOOD NEWS: a couple more airlines have just signed on, and if you’re flying to or from a couple specific locations, you may really benefit from it.

First up, Porter Airlines, based in Canada, will be offering seasonal nonstop flights between Charleston and Toronto.  The service will operate on Saturdays from February 14th through May 2nd and is designed to serve the spring tourism market.  Porter currently partners with JetBlue.

And this just announced  –  Silver Airways, based in Fort Lauderdale, will be offering nonstop service between Charleston and both Orlando and Tampa.  (The flights from Charleston will then continue on to travel hub Fort Lauderdale).   Silver Airways has about 130 flights daily and serves 25 destinations in Florida, the Bahamas, Virginia, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

This is what Silver’s CEO Sam Teittinen had to say: “As we continue to offer business and leisure travelers the ease and convenience of flying over driving, we’re looking forward to expanding Silver Airways’ point-to-point service from hub cities in our Florida home to Charleston.  We look forward to providing this important link between South Carolina and our Florida cities, as well as connections to the many islands we fly to in the Bahamas.”

Service to and from Charleston will begin March 19th, just in time for spring.  If you’re heading to one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC from Florida this spring, you may be able to get a deal.  They are running a special introductory fare of $89 each way for tickets flying between March 19th and May 22nd.
