As I mentioned in a recent BLOG, a lot of folks come to one of our SC vacation rentals  –  either Isle of Palms vacation rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston  –  via car.  This past July 4th holiday saw more in-state folks than ever driving on the highways, heading to celebrate at rental homes South Carolina or some other festive spot.

Driving is not a bad option for traveling to a Charleston beach house.  Thankfully, gas prices are almost a dollar cheaper than they were at the same time last year.

Many folks heading from further off opt for the loftier, airplane-based method of arriving in the Lowcountry before heading to one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC.  And there’s been good news on that front as well.  Charleston International Airport has been undergoing a massive renovation, and every time I look up, it seems more new carriers are coming to Charleston, and several are offering better flight service to Charleston (read more HERE).  As the old economic adage goes, the more the competition, the better it is for fare pricing as far as the consumer is concerned.

It was big news when JetBlue first began offering service to Charleston back in February 2013.  Their nonstop service to three airports has been a big boon and convenience to many, including locals, business people, vacationers and folks coming to stay in beach rentals Charleston.  They’ve been offering direct flights between CHS and New York’s JFK, Boston’s Logan, and Washington DC’s Reagan National airports.

Well, JetBlue just announced they will be offering nonstop service to yet another airport  –  Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood (FLL).   Service will begin November 19th, just in time for the holidays.  These direct flights will be just 105 minutes in duration.

This is what Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s executive director, Helen Hill, had to say about the news: “It has been beautiful blue skies over the Charleston area since JetBlue launched its local service three years ago.  Without question, JetBlue has over-delivered on its promise of partnership with the tourism community, and we are thrilled with the addition of new direct service to their growing international gateway in Fort Lauderdale. JetBlue once again steps up to the plate with a convenient and comfortable way for visitors and locals alike to travel to South Florida and beyond.”

Here’s what said Paul Campbell, executive director & CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority had to say about it:  “We are proud that our airline partnership with JetBlue is resulting in a new destination connecting the Lowcountry with Ft. Lauderdale.  Our customers will be able to enjoy the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area, and we can bring those folks to our great city.”

This comes on the heels of another recent airport addition with a Florida connection.  Now travelers flying from Fort Lauderdale with have a choice when flying to Charleston  –  either JetBlue or Silver Airways, which started offering flights to CHS this past January.  Click HERE for more on that.
