One of the biggest celestial events in many years is coming up in less than a month, and our beach rentals Charleston are some of the best possible places to watch it.
It’s a rare total eclipse – one that will span the entire continental United States. It will take place on Monday, August 21st. The sky will turn dark, and stars may even be visible in the middle of the day.
The last time a total eclipse covered the entire U.S.? 1918. The next one won’t be until April 8, 2024. The last time one was visible on the eastern coast was March 1970.
The total eclipse will pass over twelve states from Oregon to South Carolina. Basically, the last place in the country where it will be visible is Charleston and its surrounding beaches. In other words, the best/last view will be right on the decks and porches of your Charleston beach house, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston.
Charleston will experience the full eclipse at approximately 2:39 and the IOP at 2:46 p.m. The daytime darkness will last about a minute and a half, as the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.
The Great American Eclipse is a clearinghouse for info about the event (see website below). This is their tagline:
A total solar eclipse from coast to coast.
The sight of a lifetime, don’t miss it!
This is how they describe it: “On August 21, 2017, millions of people across the United States will see nature’s most wondrous spectacle — a total eclipse of the Sun. It is a scene of unimaginable beauty; the Moon completely blocks the Sun, daytime becomes a deep twilight, and the Sun’s corona shimmers in the darkened sky.”
An article from USA Today suggests the best possible places across the continent to watch it. No surprise: Charleston makes the list as the finale locale. Read here for more.
People have been planning for this for well over a year. It’s no secret that SC vacation rentals have been in great demand for that date, especially Isle of Palms vacation rentals. Check out this article from the Post & Courier about local events and bookings surrounding it.
Right now, Exclusive Properties is running a special eclipse sale on few beach rentals Charleston that still remain available, namely a couple of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. Cal us ASAP before they’re booked, too.

As a matter of fact, the Isle of Palms has created an afternoon-long party around the eclipse. It’s centered at Front Beach and will happen from 11:30 a.m. till 4:30 p.m. Get set for live music, education and great activities for the kids, a short distance from our beach house rentals Charleston SC.
Please remember to be safe!
You should never look directly at the sun without special solar filter glasses, lest you risk severe damage to your eyes. Sunglasses or homemade versions are not enough.
In the spirit of safety, the IOP has this to say: “The City will have “eclipse glasses” available beginning Tuesday, August 1st at the National Night Out event to be held at the Recreation Department located at #24 28th Avenue. Glasses will also be available at City Hall, 1207 Palm Boulevard and at the Get Eclipsed Event on the beach at IOP, August 21, 2017!”
So grab some special glasses and get ready to get eclipsed. And when you are looking for the best in rental homes South Carolina, namely luxury beach house rentals SC, to call EP.
