Good news about Charleston International Airport just keeps rolling in, making it a great way to get to our Isle of Palms luxury rentals.
But before I get to airport news, let’s talk a bit about the Lowcountry’s favorite mollusk and offseason pastime.
As I’ve covered in recent blogs, we are in the smack dab in the midst of oyster season in the Lowcountry. This is a beloved time around these parts, and it’s the perfect way to feed and entertain the crowd staying in your Charleston beach house.
This past weekend was quite the wingding. The world’s largest oyster roast took place at Boone Hall Plantation, not far from our beach rentals Charleston. Despite the rainy weather, it was a great success. Folks descended upon 80,000 pounds of fresh steamed oysters, listened to music and enjoyed some libations amidst the live oaks.
“The Big One…Under the Big Tin” near our Isle of Palms luxury rentals
If you missed that, don’t worry. Coming up this weekend is yet another chance to get your oyster on. It’s “The Big One… under the Big Tin,” the umpteenth annual Sullivan’s Island Fire and Rescue Oyster Roast.
It’ll take place this Saturday, February 3rd from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. and will be a fun precursor to Super Bowl Sunday.
This, too, is convenient to all our beach house rentals Charleston SC, namely our Isle of Palms vacation rentals. Just cross over the Breach Inlet Bridge and head over to Hennessy Street, then look for the big tin shed/fish fry shack. It’s near Fort Moultrie.
Get set for all-you-can-eat single oysters, hot dogs and fish stew, lots of music and general fun. Proceeds go toward the worthy sponsors – the good folks who spend the year helping others in need, on land or in the water. Tickets ($35 advance, $40 at the door) are available at the Harris-Teeter at Sea Island Shopping Center, Simmons Seafood, and the Sullivan’s Island Fire Station and Town Hall. This is a lively event that draws lots of locals, so consider it an insider’s oyster roast for those staying in a beach house Charleston. They’ll have a jump castle and t-shirts, and it’s very family friendly and appropriate for all ages staying in your luxury house on Isle of Palms. And it’s a super easy drive, to boot.
New flights and new records at CHS near our Isle of Palms luxury rentals
Now to airport news. As I’ve covered recently, more airlines are offering more flights to Charleston International. American, Frontier and Allegiant all made big announcements. Read here for details.
Well, Delta was not about to miss out on the press release fun. They recently announced they’ll be adding a nonstop daily route to Boston, beginning June 8th.
Right now JetBlue is the only airline offering direct Charleston-Boston service. The competition should help lower rates for folks flying between these two great cities.
More folks than ever flying to and fro
Also, for the sixth year in a row, CHS has set a record for the number of people flying in and out of the airport. The airport is the busiest in the state and a great way to travel to the very best in SC vacation rentals. Of course, I am talking about our luxury beach house rentals SC.
Check out these cool stats for the year just ended:
- 2017 saw a 7% increase in the number of folks flying in and out of the airport compared to 2016;
- Total number of passengers: 3,987,427;
- Passenger traffic increased every month except February and September;
- In December, 2 million people arrived or departed from CHS, for a 16% increase.
Here’s more from the Post & Courier.
So check out a fun local oyster roast, and check out flights coming in and out of CHS. And remember, when you are looking for rental homes South Carolina, namely Isle of Palms luxury rentals, to call EP.
