A beach house Charleston makes the perfect home base for any number of festivals that take place in and around Charleston. This weekend is one of the biggest there is. Yes, it’s SEWE time again, when lovers of wildlife and art converge on the Holy City.
Before I get into that, this week had a lot going for it. Tuesday was Mardi Gras. Wednesday was both Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day. The last time those two landed on the same day on the calendar was during World War II!
Mardi Gras may technically be over, but don’t tell that to the folks on Folly. They are cranking up the celebration this Saturday.
If you happen to be staying in one of our SC vacation rentals, you might want to check it out.
It’s FollyGras Time near your beach house Charleston!
Tomorrow (Saturday, February 17th) - Folly Beach is bringing Mardi Gras to the beach with its 10th annual celebration, the FollyGras Parade & Street Party. The fun happens on Center Street, which will be closed off for the revelry.
The colorful parade starts at 11:00, and the street festival will take over from about noon till 4:00 p.m. The parade will be led by Arnold Gottlieb’s Very Ticklish Orchestra, a marching Dixieland band.
Get set for:
- Lots of live music on three stages;
- Bands include Soul Fish, The Secrets (Motown and funk), Eddie Bush (southern rock), The Endorphin Machine (a Prince tribute);
- Kids’ area with arts and crafts, street performers, King Cake musical chairs, inflatables, etc.;
- Plenty of food vendors with great Cajun/creole cuisine;
- Dozens of artisans, craft and fashion vendors;
- Free masks and beads while they last;
- No pets, please.
You’re encouraged to come in costume. The event is free for full-time Folly residents and for kids 12 and under. Otherwise it’s $5 per person advance, $10 at the gate. It’s a family friendly event and perfect for all ages staying in your Charleston beach house.

Of course this is also SEWE weekend, which brings the best in wildlife art and sporting lifestyle to the Lowcountry.
The Southeastern Wildlife Exhibition, as it’s officially known, draws between 35,000 and 45,000 to the Charleston area. Although festivals take place all across the whole calendar nowadays, SEWE has traditionally been seen as the kickoff to festival season around Charleston. So if you’re in the market for one of our rental homes South Carolina for any upcoming festivals, better call us as soon as you can for the best selection.
Famed animal expert Jack Hanna, one of David Letterman’s favorite repeat guests on “Late Night with David Letterman,” will be here as usual. So will comedian Jeff Foxworthy, who apparently is also a wildlife artist (who knew?!).
As always, there are also exhibitors and demos at Marion Square as well as Charleston Place and various other venues around town. Check out the map. And don’t forget one of the main draws, the beloved Dock Dogs which will be catching some serious air down at Brittlebank Park. SEWE venues are convenient to all our SC vacation rentals, an easy 20 minute or so drive from our Isle of Palms luxury rentals.
New this year is something that hopefully will become a regular event. It’s sheep and duck herding, as done by the inimitable breed, border collies. Bill Coburn and his border collies will be doing herding demos, also in Brittlebank Park.
SEWE’s going on today, Friday, February 16th, through Sunday, February 18th. Here’s a full schedule of events: http://sewe.com/events
Also, as I covered in that last blog, Morgan Creek Grill is a really convenient place to eat if you’re in a luxury house on Isle of Palms. They just hosted a special Valentine’s dinner with live music.
Well, they have another special event happening this weekend. Check out the graphic for more.
Morgan Creek Grill is located at 80 41st Avenue, right next to the Marina. It’s super close to all our beach house rentals Charleston SC.
So enjoy SEWE and a little Folly Gras. And remember to call EP when you are looking for the best in luxury beach house rentals SC. We’ll help you and your friends and family find the perfect beach house Charleston.
All best,
