The official stats are in, and the Isle of Palms has been deemed to be the safest city in South Carolina. This important accolade is determined by the good folks at SafeWise, who track safety and security issues around the country. It marks the third year in a row that the IOP has been named the safest city in the state. This is SafeWise’s sixth annual Safest Cities Ranking. To determine the rankings, the number crunchers analyzed FBI crime report statistics along with population data. They took into account both violent crimes (aggravated assault, robbery, rape, murder) as well as property crimes (larceny-theft, motor vehicle theft, and burglary). To give a fairer picture of each city, they calculated the number of crimes per 1,000 people, weighing violent and property crimes equally. You can read all about SafeWise’s methodology here.
