If you’re coming to one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, beginning this week you don’t even have to leave the island to shop local at a farmers’ market. When you are on vacation  -  for example, coming to stay in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC  -  a fun way to get the most out of your trip is to experience some of what the local area has to offer.  And of course one of the neatest and most wholesome ways to do that is to visit farmers’ markets. After all, you need to stock your beach house Charleston with good food for family and friends.  Why not get the absolute freshest, healthiest options possible, while also helping to support local farmers and the environment?  It’s hard to argue against farmers’ markets.  You get produce that was in the field or on the tree just a couple hours ago, often at better prices than the big chain stores. So they’re a nice option for filling the fridge of your Charleston beach house.  They are also a great place to find unique local artisanal products that make perfect souvenirs to take with you when you leave your luxury house on Isle of Palms and head back home.

Agritourism: a fun thing to do when in Isle of Palms vacation rentals

Be sure to keep an eye peeled for products that are labeled Certified South Carolina or Certified SC Grown to be sure they are the real deal.  The SC Department of Agriculture has a website with all sorts of good info, including sanctioned growers and food producers in the state.  They also have a whole lot of info about the latest trend, “agritourism.”  Here’s a link. You can also access their new online magazine for all things local at http://farmflavor.com/us-ag/south-carolina/ A couple years back, SC Governor Nikki Haley declared the month of August to be “Farmers' Market Month” in South Carolina.  So the new IOP market gets in just under the wire, launching on the 31st.  There’s nothing like bringing home genuine certified SC products from your stay in SC vacation rentals. There are well over 100 different farmers’ markets in the state, and the number is constantly growing.  Case in point: the new Isle of Palms market.

More great farmers’ markets near our Isle of Palms vacation rentals

If you are in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston, you are in luck, because you are just a short drive from one of the very best. The Charleston Farmers’ Market takes place each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. downtown in Marion Square.  It’s nationally known as one of the top ten in the country.  For sale there’s not only produce but also gourmet prepared food for a delicious lunch in the park, funky art, cool crafts, local meats, fresh-made pasta, the list grows longer each year.  They’ve snazzed up their website, and you’ll find lots more info about vendors and what’s in season:  http://www.charlestonfarmersmarket.com/ Downtown is about a 20 minute drive from your beach house Charleston. Even closer to our Isle of Palms vacation rentals is the Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market, which takes place each Tuesday (that’s today!), from about 3:30 p.m. till dusk.  It’s located on Coleman Boulevard over the Ben Sawyer Bridge from Sullivan’s Island.  There’s usually live music and a festive atmosphere, and lots of food choices to take with you or eat dinner on site.  The Town of Mount Pleasant upgraded the locale a couple years ago, making a dedicated farmers market urban park complete with attractive sheltered areas in case of iffy weather.  The market has grown into its site and is the happenin’ local spot on Tuesdays. So while you’re here staying in one of our rental homes South Carolina, be sure to check out some of the deliciousness that’s growing in this part of the country.  And when you are looking for the best in beach house rentals Charleston SC, be sure to call EP.   All best, Lowcountry Lisa your Isle of Palms vacation blogger
