If you’re coming to Charleston, chances are you’ll cross the Ravenel Bridge. If you head downtown from the Isle of Palms, it’s pretty much a given.  You’ll cross the Cooper River via this lovely structure. The Ravenel Bridge a local landmark that, thanks to visionaries like America’s Best Mayor Joe Riley, has become a beloved landmark. The planners did it right.  (Thank you, Joe.)  They added a pedestrian and bike lane facing the Atlantic Ocean. Walking, running or biking the Ravenel Bridge is a wonderful way to take in Lowcountry vistas and get some great exercise, to boot.  It's a perfect outing for all ages staying in a luxury house on Isle of Palms.  Plus you get all those lovely harbor breezes. If you do so, you’ll notice two of the preeminent sights to visit during a visit to Charleston. On the Mount Pleasant side, you’ll see the WWII aircraft carrier USS Yorktown and the Patriot’s Point Museum.  On the Charleston side, you can spot the SC Aquarium, the  premier aquarium in the state of South Carolina.

Charleston Waterfront Pass makes it easy to see what's on both sides of the Ravenel Bridge

Well, these two institutions and must-see entities have teamed up to create a duo pass.  This special ticket will allow you entry to both places, as well as a super-cool harbor boat ride connecting the two.  It’s a great way to see two great sights and have a harbor trip while you’re at it. It’s called the Charleston Waterfront Pass, and it’s available through the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.  By the way, they’re a great resource for folks visiting Charleston. You may start at either Patriot’s Point or the Aquarium, then travel to the other via the Charleston Water Taxi for a super fun full day.  If you prefer, you may also opt to visit them on separate days instead. You can purchase the pass at any of these four locations:

  • Downtown Charleston at 375 Meeting St.
  • Kiawah Island at 4475 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy.
  • Mount Pleasant at 99 Harry M. Hallman, Jr. Blvd.
  • North Charleston at 4975-B Centre Pointe Drive.

The pass costs: $52.95 for ages 13 and above, $38.95 for kids 6 to 12, and $26.95 for children 3 to 5.  Read more about it here. So span the harbor and see great things on both sides, and on the way over to boot, either by water taxi or on the Ravenel Bridge.  And remember to call EP when you need a great place to stay at the beach.
