Before we get to how beer and beach rentals Charleston go hand in hand, just a quick reminder.  Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto are just one week away.

The 42nd annual Spoleto Festival USA will bring artistic talent from all over the globe, to the vicinity of our luxury beach house rentals SC.  It’s a chance to entertain all ages in your beach house Charleston.  This is particularly true of Piccolo Spoleto, with many events geared toward kids.

Basically, all of the Lowcountry will be abuzz with performing arts of all kinds  -  music, dance, theater, opera, comedy, you name it.

One of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals makes a perfect home base.  Most of the events are downtown Charleston, although they are spread around the Lowcountry.  There are performances at Mepkin Abbey in Monck’s Corner.  One of our favorite recurring events, is the sand castle building competition on the IOP Front Beach, just a stone’s throw from your luxury house on Isle of Palms.

The Spoleto folks recently announced this year’s official poster, which you’ll be seeing all around town.  Entitled, “Hither and Dither,” it’s by the famous artist David Hockney.  This is the third time he’s designed a poster for the festival.  He also did the one for the original 1976 “Festival of Two Worlds” in Spoleto, Italy  as well as the 1997 poster for Spoleto Festival USA.

More about the artist, from the folks at Spoleto…

David Hockney is one of the world’s most recognizable artists, widely known for his iconic images of backyards, shimmering pools, bright landscapes, and large portraits of friends and relatives. At 80 years old, the artist continues to create new work from his home and studio in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, often combining the distortions of perspectives of Cubism with the bright colors and thick brushworks of Fauvism.

Since his first one-man show in 1963, Hockney has received countless major retrospectives, recently at The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met Fifth Avenue) in New York. Hither and Dither received its first public showing at the Pace Gallery in New York during an exhibition this spring.

Here’s the Spoleto website where you can buy tickets and read more about upcoming events.

Check out a Beer Garden near our beach rentals Charleston

You don’t have to be in Germany in October to experience the fun of a giant beer garden.

If you’re in one of EP’s beach house rentals Charleston SC this weekend, you’ll get your chance.

Tomorrow is the annual Charleston Beer Garden at the Grove.  It’s a beer extravaganza, with 30 different breweries pouring over 60 different kinds of beer, many produced locally.   There will also be a good bit of live music, food and activities thrown in for good measure.

Here’s some of what’s in store:

  • Craft beer from these local breweries: Charles Towne Fermentory, Frothy Beard, Lo-Fi, Twisted Cypress, Rusty Bull and others;
  • Regional brews from Catawba, Hi-Wire, Pisgah, New South, Yazoo and more;
  • A special HomeBrewers’ Village;
  • Vendor Village with crafts, jewelry, T-shirts and such;
  • Beer Games -  cornhole, arm wrestling, hands-free pizza eating, keg-tossing, and “pony hops.”  The latter involves races for adults on inflatable horses.
  • Live music by two very popular groups – Sol Driven Train and the Dubplates;
  • A wide array of food trucks.

It’s going on tomorrow -  Saturday, May 19th, from noon – 7:00 p.m. at the Grove at Patriot’s Point in Mount Pleasant.  It’s a convenient distance from all our SC vacation rentals.

Proceeds go to charity.  In this case, it’s Palmetto Community Care, formerly known as Lowcountry AIDS Services.

Tickets are $25 advance, $25 the day of, $15 for designated drivers.  VIP tickets are sold out.  You can get the discount online on their website until midnight tonight, so why not save $10 bucks?  Here’s the link.
