Held on the first Friday of March, May, October, and December each year from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, the French Quarter Art Walk provides visitors and locals alike with a unique opportunity to see pieces from local artists who work in a variety of artistic disciplines and genres, whether you plan your vacation around the French Quarter Art Walk or you’re simply looking for activities to do during your vacation.
With as many as thirty galleries calling Charleston’s French Quarter home, the French Quarter Art Walk becomes quite an undertaking! However, with a little planning ahead of time, visitors can immerse themselves in an extraordinary side of Charleston’s rich arts culture.
To get started, you can download a map from charlestongalleryassociation.com. The Charleston Gallery Association hosts the French Quarter Art Walk, and using their gallery map, you can plan out your gallery route through the city to fit your artistic interests. As a bonus, you can also incorporate some of Charleston’s many historic sites and renowned landmarks into your walk.
Once you’ve mapped out your plan for visiting as many of the French Quarter galleries as you like, it’s helpful to think ahead to what you’ll encounter at each gallery. Most galleries in the French Quarter serve wine during the event, with a few even serving snacks. You’ll want to make dinner reservations ahead of time to ensure that you’re properly fed and can enjoy the art work. Additionally, you’ll want to bring cash with you just in case you end up falling in love with a unique piece of art during the event.
