An Iconic Charleston Attraction

You’ll find White Point Gardens at 2 Murray Blvd., Charleston, SC 29401 in downtown Charleston’s Historic District, located on the tip of the peninsula. Here, there are expansive views of the Charleston Harbor and Fort Sumter. As you stroll through White Point Gardens, you’ll come across incredible statues dedicated to historical figures and events, such as the legendary outlaw pirate Stede Bonnet who was hung on the gallows in the grounds of the park, Revolutionary War-era general William Moultrie who defended Charleston against the British in 1776, the historian William Gilmore Simms, the fallen soldiers of the Confederacy, and the crews of the H.L. Hunley and the USS Amberjack, as well as traditional cannons and military artifacts from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, and World War II, among others.

The entire park is also encompassed in enormous oak trees, shading the benches throughout and the central gazebo. The park is also located next to the Battery on the east and north sides, as well as famous streets like Murray Blvd. and King St.

The White Point Gardens were named for the tip of the Charleston peninsula, which was named White Point during the early 19th century after previously holding the names South Bay and Oyster Point.
