Nothing says summer like a couple things – a Charleston beach house, and a cold frozen treat.
If you are here staying in one of our SC vacation rentals, whether it’s a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, you know that the mercury’s on the rise. Actually, if you are just about anywhere in the country right now, you’re dealing with some serious heat.
One good thing about our beach house rentals Charleston SC is that you can benefit from the ocean breezes. Most of our luxury beach house rentals SC are oceanfront or very close to it, so that’s a definite plus.
Also, there’s the water itself… just head out of our beach rentals Charleston and into the surf to cool off.
Then, of course, there’s also the old summer standby of ice cream, a delicious way to beat the heat.
Ice cream is a fun occasional treat, but honestly, its nutritional virtues leave much to be desired, often with plenty of additives and preservatives.
Fortunately, there’s a great, guilt-free alternative to ice cream with none of that eater’s remorse. And a business has opened here on the Isle of Palms offering some of the really good, fresh, cold stuff.
It’s called Island Ice Frozen Yogurt, and it’s doing a great business. It’s located in the Harris-Teeter shopping center, at 1515C Palm Boulevard – super close to all our Isle of Palms vacation rentals. It’s owned by Sonya and Bob Berle, a local family who wants to promote healthier — and yet still fun — eating.
Here are some cool facts about Island Ice:
It’s all ORGANIC
Their special yogurt comes from California and is also sold to Whole Foods
They use local produce to create special fresh flavors and toppings
Each batch is made from scratch from the owner Sonya’s recipes
Their products are gluten-free
They are kosher
They also have vegan options
They brew up local beverages (Charleston Roasters coffee and Charleston Tea Plantation tea)
There’s a special children’s play area
They have a free book swap library, to help promote reading
Believe it or not, it’s the only organic frozen yogurt store in the entire state of South Carolina. Even though their frozen yogurt uses local produce and is all organic, it only costs about five cents more than the average brand.
They are open seven days a week. Here’s a link to their website for specific hours and more info: http://islandiceyogurt.com/index.html
Here’s a link to their philosophy page, which encourages healthy living: http://islandiceyogurt.com/our_philosophy.html
