Today marks the official start of what has fast become a popular, and much-anticipated, time in the Lowcountry.  Actually, it rolls around twice a year, and the “winter” installment is going on now.

It’s Charleston Restaurant Week, and it runs from Wednesday, January 7th through Sunday, January 18th.

Local restaurants come up with special menus that offer diners a break on the usual price, while allowing their chefs to shine.  Originally it was a three-course meal for either $20, $30 or $40 a person, though they have added more flexibility in pricing and options to benefit the diner (some restaurants offer a signature cocktail in lieu of a course, for example).

If you’re here in one of our rental homes South Carolina, either Isle of Palms luxury rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston, it’s a great way to sample some of the best cuisine Charleston has to offer.  But be warned:  this is very popular with local diners, and spots fill up fast.  You are encouraged to make reservations where possible, as soon as possible (just like our beach house rentals Charleston SC).

This has grown by leaps and bounds, and more restaurants than ever are participating  –  well over 150.

The Charleston Restaurant Association, who sponsors the event, has a great website with links to the individual menus and websites, as well as allowing to to make a reservation when possible.  Here’s a link:  http://www.charlestonrestaurantassociation.com/charleston-restaurant-week/

They also have a free app available to help in your Charleston Restaurant Week adventure.  It also has a handy tip calculator as well as a parking assistant, especially nice if you’re driving in from one of our beach rentals Charleston and aren’t sure where to park.  Just search for CRA or Charleston Restaurant Association in your app store.

Also, I mentioned last time about the need to experience a genuine local oyster roast while visiting the Lowcountry and staying in a Charleston beach house.  Another one is taking place this coming weekend, and it’s for a good cause.

On Saturday, January 10th from 2:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m., it’s the 10th annual Music and Oysters for Wildlife.  They’ll feature some of the very best fresh local oysters around… they hail from Bull’s Bay, which folks around here say is the top spot for the most succulent bivalves.  It’s all-you-can-eat, and there will also be barbecue, burgers and beverages (beer & wine) as well as a silent auction.  There’ll be live music by some great folks like Mark Bryan (of Hootie and the Blowfish), Danielle Howle, Occasional Milkshake with Doug Jones, the Red Dog Ramblers, and the Lincoln Steel Band.

It’s a benefit for the Friends of Coastal South Carolina –  SEWEE Association, the folks who work hard to help preserve the natural resources of our beautiful SC coast.  Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 the day of, and kids under 12 are free.

It’ll take place at the Sewee Outpost in Awendaw.  It’s convenient to all our SC vacation rentals, especially our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.  If you’re in a luxury house on Isle of Palms, just head over the IOP Connector till you hit Highway 17, then turn right and head north.  It’s at 4853 Highway 17 in Awendaw.  Here’s a link to their website, including a link to buy tickets:  http://www.sccoastalfriends.org/

So enjoy some of the fine vittles the Lowcountry is known for… and remember, when you’re looking for the best in luxury beach house rentals SC, call EP.

All best,
Lowcountry Lisa
