There are some delectable things on the horizon here in the Lowcountry.
Not only have we reached the season of oyster roasts, as I’ve mentioned in recent blogs, but we’re also in the season of benefits… when worthy local charities try to outdo each other with fancy affairs while raising money for their cause.
If you’re here staying in one of our rental homes South Carolina this weekend, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, you’re in luck. Tomorrow evening, there are two delicious ones to choose from.
First, it’s the annual Chocolate Affair – an elegant evening when some of the best chefs and chocolatiers in the Lowcountry try to knock your socks off with their creations. All this healthy choco-competition means an overabundance of decadent desserts for lucky ticketholders.
There will also be live music by the First Class Band, gourmet catering and open bar, and an auction of more than 200 goodies like fantasy vacations, jewelry, dinner packages, furniture, and artwork. Proceeds are for a good cause, the nonprofit Communities in Schools, which helps area kids stay in school and be successful.
It starts at 6:30 and will be held at the Daniel Island Club. That’s located at 600 Island Park Drive, an easy drive from all our beach house rentals Charleston. From our Isle of Palms luxury rentals, just head over the IOP Connector to Mount Pleasant, and take I-526 to Daniel Island. At the traffic light, turn left.

Also going on tomorrow (Saturday, February 7th) is Bacon and Bourbon, a creative event benefitting the Junior League’s hunger and homelessness initiatives. Get ready for 12 chefs and 25 distilleries offering up their best… as well as live music, bull riding, laser skeet shooting, cigars and unlimited sampling. The event is all-inclusive, although there will also be a rare bourbon bar with $10-$30 pours of Buffalo Trace Distillery, Parkers Heritage Collection, Old Rip Van Winkle, Jefferson’s, Orphan Barrel Projects, Willett, Wild Turkey and Woodford.
It’ll take place at 7:30 p.m. at Memminger Auditorium downtown, at 56 Beaufain Street – also convenient to all our luxury beach house rentals SC. Here’s the official website: http://www.baconandbourbonsc.com/
2nd Sunday is here again!
And to round out the weekend, this coming Sunday, February 8th, is 2nd Sunday on King… the wildly popular monthly event that takes over King Street and returns it to pedestrians (both two- and four-legged). It’s a great thing to do with everyone in your Charleston beach house – think shopping, eating, live entertainment, people watching, all rolled into one – on what has been named one of the ten best streets in America. King Street runs down the spine of the historic downtown peninsula, and it’s an easy drive from all our SC vacation rentals, both Isle of Palms vacation rentals and Folly Beach rentals Charleston.
Considering the month, expect to see a lot of Valentine-themed goodies. Keep a special eye peeled for Christophe Chocolatier, who will be selling and maybe even giving away samples of their edible art. They’ll be at the corner of King and Society Streets.

Also, they offer a nifty voucher for two hours of free parking in a city garage. Here’s a link to print a copy, along with a handy map of King Street and some of the many businesses along it: http://susanlucas.typepad.com/2ndSunParking0215.pdf
The weather is looking really fantastic – they are saying sunny with temps around 70 degrees – so it should be a fun way to spend a February day.
