If you’re driving to your luxury house on Isle of Palms, the news continues to be good on the gas price front… and it bodes well for the near future, as well.

low gas prices near your luxury house on Isle of Palms

This is quite a hot topic, and I’ve blogged about this a bit already  –  e.g., HERE, HERE and then again HERE.

If you headed to one of our SC vacation rentals this past year, whether it was one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston, no doubt you noticed a much less painful experience at the pump.  And depending where you were driving from, chances are you were pleasantly surprised.  The Palmetto State consistently has among the lowest (and often THE lowest) gas prices in the entire country. Yet another reason to choose rental homes South Carolina!

The official numbers have been crunched for 2015, and they are quite encouraging.

During this past calendar year, Americans saved a total of over $115 billion on gas due to the more reasonable prices we experienced in 2015.  Who needs the lottery?!  We’re all winners.

In fact, the average licensed driver saved more than $550 on gasoline in 2015.

The national average for a gallon on unleaded never headed above $3, and in fact it dipped below the $2 benchmark  –  the first time it’s done that since the Great Recession of 2009.

Here’s the Associated Press’ coverage on the subject:  http://abcnews4.com/news/business-news/ap-explains-how-much-money-you-just-saved-on-gas-in-2015

The forecast continues to be good for the coming year.  This was a recent headline in USA Today: “Gas prices could drop toward $1 a gallon.”  Now that’s a good reason to start booking one of our beach rentals Charleston ASAP!

There does seem to be a seasonal rise in general gas prices in the spring and summer, as refineries switch over to cleaner-burning fuel as mandated by the federal government for each summer driving season.  But prices should drop again by fall, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

GasBuddy’s senior petroleum analyst Jeff Pelton put it this way, “2016 should be another great year of low gas prices for drivers.  The only obstacles could be refinery maintenance, both planned and unplanned, adverse weather in the form of hurricanes, and the inherent geopolitical factors that come with crude oil. The good news is that when all these factors are weighed, gas prices should still enjoy lows on par with 2015.”

Spoleto 2014 header

It’s (almost) Spoleto ticket time!

Also in the news  –  this week, tickets go on sale for the Spoleto Festival.

This year is the 40th annual installment of the famous arts festival, and it promises to be an exceptional one  –  perhaps the best to date.  It’s the first time events will be held in the newly renovated and absolutely gorgeous Gaillard Center downtown.  They are also doing a full-scale production of “Porgy and Bess,” which although it is set in Charleston, hasn’t been done here in decades.

Spoleto Festival USA 2016 runs from May 26th through June 12th.   Tickets go on sale this Thursday, January 14, through the official festival website:  https://spoletousa.org/

A box office will open at the Charleston Visitor Center, at 375 Meeting Street, on March 14th.  They’ll also be available at the Gaillard Center starting on May 2nd.  But honestly, if you really want tickets, your best bet is to buy them online as soon as possible.  Many of these productions will sell out fast.

Here’s a link to their press release about the upcoming festival:  http://spoletousa.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/SFUSA-2016-Season-Announcement_embargoed-to-Jan-31.pdf
