It’s that time of the year again, when the movie Elf shows up all over the place!

The movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell as the orphaned human raised by elves in the North Pole, first came out in time for Christmas in 2003.  It became an instant holiday classic.

A stellar cast (Bob Newhart, Ed Asner as Santa, Zooey Deschanel as Jolie, James Caan and Mary Steenburgen), Will Ferrell’s goofy antics (dancing in the mail room, eating spaghetti swimming in maple syrup, downing a two-liter bottle of Coke in one giant gulp), and a sweet message all combined to make it a standard of the holiday season.

The movie has been running in loops on TV lately.  But if you feel a yen to get out of the house, you have multiple options for getting your Elf on this season around Charleston.

There are at least four upcoming Elf events for your entertainment pleasure!

Elf at the Pop-up Drive-In

As I’ve covered before, the Post & Courier has been sponsoring drive-in movie nights at their downtown parking lot on upper King, at 134 Columbus Street.  They started doing it during the early days of the pandemic.  It’s proven quite popular among folks eager to get out of the house and be entertained.  They’re at it again this Friday night, December 11th, with a showing of Elf, as part of their Holiday at the Movies.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m., with Elf itself starting at 7:30 p.m.  This is no ordinary drive-in movie evening.  Santa Claus himself will be there, ready to pose for photos.  There will also be vendors for you to do some holiday shopping, along with pizza, hot chocolate and other food truck stuff.

Be sure to reserve your spot online ahead of time here, as this will surely sell out fast.

Screening at Charleston Music Hall

Charleston Music Hall is also screening the movie Elf, on Tuesday night, December 15th.  Doors open at 5:30 and the show starts at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $12 adults and $10 kids 12 and under.  Face masks and social distancing by group are required. Charleston Music hall is located downtown at 37 John Street.

The Musical Version

The Musical Theater Center of Mount Pleasant, located at 547 Long Point Road, is also getting in on the fun.  They’re putting on the theatrical version of Elf.  It’s called, “Elf The Musical, Jr.

They have both daytime and evening performances on December 17th, 18th and 19th.  Reach them at (843) 388-3272 for more information and show times.  You can purchase tickets here.

Dive-In Movie!

In what has to be the most creative Elf event going, why not try a dive-in movie?

The fun folks at the Mount Pleasant Rec Department are sponsoring a night of swimming complete with a showing of the movie Elf.

It’s happening on December 18th from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m.  Call them at (843) 884-2528 for more information.

That’s a whole lotta Elf going on.

So remember what the four basic elf food groups are (candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup).  Be sure to sing loud for all to hear, to help spread Christmas cheer.  And if a stay in a Charleston beach house is on your Christmas list, just give us a call at EP.

All best,
