The weekends leading up to Christmas and New Year’s sure are a great time to be in one of our beach house rentals Charleston SC. Your only problem will be choosing which fun holiday event to attend.
As I covered in that last blog, there’s a ton of holiday markets going on. Tonight is the City Night Market and their holiday enchanted Christmas and tree lighting. Tomorrow is the Mount Pleasant Holiday Farmers Market & Craft Show, as well as downtown Charleston’s Holiday Farmers’ Market in Marion Square. Sunday is day two of the downtown holiday farmers’ market as well as Second Sunday on King, the holiday edition. Whew. You can truly get your shopping on. And local, to boot.
Last weekend saw a slew of parades, but there’s still a couple big ones left. And word to the wise – not all of them take place on dry land!
If you are coming in to one of our SC vacation rentals this weekend – to either one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or our Folly Beach rentals Charleston – you really ought to check out one or both. You have your choice of Saturday or Sunday. But more about those parades in a minute.
First up, there’s another fun thing happening tomorrow afternoon.
Holiday Fun at the Joe
Come out to “The Joe,” Charleston’s cool baseball park, and get in the holiday spirit of giving and fun in a party sponsored by the Riverdogs, Charleston’s team. There will be all sorts of exciting things for kids, like jump castles, visits and photos with Santa Claus and Charlie Claus (who will be collecting Christmas lists, which is some serious business), games and crafts. They’ll be showing the movie “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on the big video board.
Be sure to check out the Vendor Village, featuring the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry, Exquisite Enterprises, Schaffer Marketing, Carolina Ice Palace, Holy Spokes, Cumulus Media, Patriots Point and others.
It’ll happen from noon till 3:00 p.m. with the movie starting at 1:00 p.m.. The price of admission? An new unopened toy, which will be donated to the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. If you don’t have a toy, admission is $5 per person, with children three and under free.
Joseph P. Riley Park is located at 360 Fishburne Street. It’s an easy drive from all our luxury beach house rentals SC. Here’s more: https://www.facebook.com/chasriverdogs
Saturday parade… HO HO HO on the H2O near our beach house rentals Charleston SC
If you’ve been here before staying in a Charleston beach house, you probably noticed something – folks in the Lowcountry are crazy about boats. So it stands to reason that we’d create a parade around them.
Saturday evening (December 9th) is the 36th annual Holiday Parade of Boats presented by the City of Charleston in cooperation with the Charleston Sail and Power Squadron. This is a great holiday tradition that is fun for all ages of folks staying in your beach house Charleston. People adorn their boats with all kinds of wacky holiday decorations, then motor around the harbor to make sure everyone gets a good view.
It officially lasts from about 5:00 till 8:00 p.m., but the time depends on where you position yourself. The parade begins near Fort Sumter, travels past the USS Yorktown, goes under the Ravenel Bridge and back. Then it heads south along the Charleston Peninsula. It travels along the Battery and ends on the Ashley River near the James Island Connector. .
Anywhere along the waterfront should give you a good view, especially along the Battery at the base of the peninsula downtown. If you’re in one of our Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC, just head over the James Island Connector and down to Battery. If you’d prefer to watch from the Mount Pleasant side – especially convenient if you are staying in a luxury house on Isle of Palms – you’d better get there on the early side.
Ahoy and Ho Ho Ho!
If you’d rather go to an official viewing party, here’s one sponsored by Rotary. This is how they describe it…
One of the best viewing spots will be at the Light Up the Night Parade Party hosted by the Rotary Club of Charleston and the City of Charleston at the Charleston Maritime Center. Tickets for this festive, family-friendly event feature barbecue, sweet treats and young-at-heart, and jolly caroling. Santa will make a special appearance arriving by boat at 5:30 p.m. Read more here.
Sunday’s parade on land near our beach house rentals Charleston SC
Then, on Sunday December 10th, it’s back to dry land for the 22nd annual Town of Mount Pleasant Christmas Light Parade and Tree Lighting. It’ll kick off at Moultrie Middle School (645 Coleman Boulevard) at 5:30 p.m. with the lighting of the big tree and fireworks, then the parade will follow at approx. 5:45. This is also convenient to all our rental homes South Carolina, especially our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.
The parade of more than 100 groups will travel down Coleman Boulevard from Shem Creek to the Sea Island Shopping Center. It begins at approximately 5:30 p.m. and will feature lighted floats, marching bands, antique cars, Santa riding on a fire engine, and more. You can vote for your favorite float —- #VoteTheFloatMP
This is always a lot of fun. At last year’s parade, a couple friends of mine met for the first time, fell madly in love and just got engaged last week…. so you never know what holiday magic will happen! This parade is especially convenient to our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. Read more here. Or here.
So enjoy a parade or two. And remember to call EP for the best in beach house rentals Charleston SC!
