If you’re here in a luxury house on Isle of Palms this weekend, you have a couple fun options.  You can help a worthy cause, or feed your family and friends in a distinctively Lowcountry way. October means a lot of things in these parts.   It has also come to mark National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so in addition to all the orange of October (pumpkinsHalloween!), you’ll be seeing a lot of pink around your beach house Charleston. This weekend is the annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure.  It takes place at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island.  It’s an easy drive from our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, and Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC as well. Their mission is a noble one, to “save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.” It covers four areas – education, screening, treatment, and research.  The good news is, there’s been a 38% decrease in breast cancer deaths from 1989 to 2014.  But there is still much progress to be made. 75% of proceeds go to worthy local programs, and 25% goes to national research. It’s happening this Saturday, October 21st.  Actually, this is just the local manifestation of a much bigger organization.  This is from their website:

About the Race for the Cure.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the world’s largest, most successful fundraising and education event for breast cancer. The race series includes more than 140 events on four continents, with over one million participants coming together every year to take part in the fight against breast cancer.

This important annual event raises significant funds for the breast cancer movement, thanks to supporters and survivors around the world who step up and take action by fundraising for the cause.

Here’s the schedule for Saturday:

  • Registration/Packet Pickup opens - 7am
  • 8:30 Kids Dash
  • 8:45 1 mile fun run/walk
  • 9:00 5K

Check out a Lowcountry tradition near your luxury house on Isle of Palms...

October is one of the best times to book SC vacation rentals because the weather’s perfect and the rates drop.  October is a month with an ‘R’ in it, so you know what that means  -  it’s also a great time for an oyster roast.  If you’re staying in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC, you can host your own.  Give us a call and we can hook you up with someone local to help cater it.  Nothing like eating fresh oysters on the deck of your Charleston beach house. If you feel like going out for dinner instead, there’s a cool option on the weekends.  Every Saturday all the way through December, there will be an oyster roast at Morgan Creek Grill on the Isle of Palms.  MCG has one of the best views on the island and is a stone’s throw from all our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. Their oysters are caught locally and are super fresh.  They’ll also serve up Chef Paul’s famous chili, live music and drink specials.  It takes place from 4:00 till 8:00 pm, and tickets are just $15 per person. Morgan Creek Grill is located at the IOP Marina, at 80 41st Avenue for you GPSers.  (Better yet, just walk from your luxury house on Isle of Palms).   Here’s a link to their website: http://www.morgancreekgrill.com/ And remember to call EP when you’re looking for rental homes South Carolina, namely beach rentals Charleston.  We’ll put you in the perfect luxury house on Isle of Palms.   All best, Lowcountry Lisa your Isle of Palms vacation blogger
