Santa Claus Reading a List --- Image by © Royalty-Free/Corbis

The holiday season is in full swing, as evidenced by a quick glance at the calendar of events happening in Charleston and on the islands.

Don’t forget, tomorrow (Saturday, December 5th) is the Holiday Street Festival and Tree Lighting on the IOP, super convenient to your luxury house on Isle of Palms.  The party lasts from 2:00 till 7:00 p.m., with the actually tree lighting happening about 5:30.

If you’re coming into town to stay in one of our SC vacation rentals, either Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC, you picked a good time.  Santa Claus himself is making a couple high-profile appearances in Charleston this weekend.

Apparently, Santa read the Condé Nast POLL of the best place in America to visit!

If you feel like venturing downtown, tomorrow evening (Saturday, December 5th) is also the official Christmas tree lighting in Marion Square.  There the big guy in the red suit will arrive to help Mayor Joe Riley illuminate the 64-foot Tree of Lights.  The musical prelude starts at 4:00 p.m., and the ceremony starts at 5:00 p.m.

Marion Square is centrally located downtown on the peninsula, bordered by Meeting, Calhoun and King Streets.  It’s an equidistant drive from all our rental homes South Carolina, both our Isle of Palms luxury rentals and our Folly Beach house Charleston.  If you aren’t already booked in a Charleston beach house, don’t worry – just give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to get you paired up with great beach rentals Charleston.

Then on Sunday, December 6th is the 35th  annual Charleston Christmas Parade, sponsored by the City of Charleston and the  Charleston Fire Department.  Santa will make another grand appearance, and he doesn’t have far to travel; it also takes place downtown.

The parade will start at Colonial Lake (where Broad and Barre Streets meet), travel over Broad Street, up King Street (against the traditional flow of traffic) and finish at Marion Square.  And as per tradition, Santa will be there at the culmination of all the floats, marching bands, dogs, horses and other merrymakers, and he will be available for photos.

The parade will start at 2:00 and finishes at approximately 4:00.  It’s a very family-friendly event, so load up everyone from your beach house Charleston and head downtown.  It’s a great parade but not so crazy-crowded like in some cities that you can’t find a good spot along the parade route.  Here’s the official website:

After the parade, finish up at Marion Square for Chanukah in the Square, happening from 4:00 till 6:00, also on Sunday Dec 6th.  It’s an event celebrating the Jewish holiday but is open to people of all faiths.  It’s a great time with loads of free food (like latkes) plus crafts, music, dancing and fun activities for all.

As I mentioned BEFORE, if you’re heading onto the peninsula, here’s a link to a nifty voucher for two hours of free parking in most of the Charleston city garages, for use any time during the holiday season:
