As I’ve mentioned before, Charleston has a HUGE number of terrific festivals and events, many of which have been around for several decades now (SEWE, Spoleto, etc.).

No doubt bolstered by the way Charlestonians embrace a good festival, many new ones are cropping up all the time.

If you’re planning on being in a Charleston beach house this weekend, there are a couple of relatively new festivals going on, each one in just its second year.

First up, it’s the Folly Jazz Festival, going on both Saturday and Sunday, November 7th-8th.  (Folly is becoming festival central, as I covered in this BLOG.)   Actually some events kick off Friday night as well.  It’s even bigger than last year, and most of the performances are FREE.

The Lowcountry in general and Folly in particular have deep jazz roots.  Folly is, after all, where George Gershwin wrote “Porgy and Bess” while staying in someone else’s Charleston beach house.  So who knows  —  maybe staying in one of the many beach rentals Charleston will inspire the next great piece of American music!

Also this weekend going on at Folly is a fun monarch-themed event.  You might remember a while back I blogged about the fauna around your Charleston beach house, and one of the things it mentioned was MONARCH butterflies.

Well, the monarch experts are at it again, and this time you can take part in tagging the beautiful, mysterious, and threatened creatures.  This Saturday, November 7th is “Monarch Migration” sponsored by the Charleston County Parks & Rec people.  It’ll take place from 1:00 p.m. till 2:30 p.m. and is open to ages 9 and over.  You’ll be led by a naturalist in searching for and tagging monarchs, and you’ll learn all about their fascinating migration to Mexico.  The cost is $7 for Charleston County residents, $9 for non-residents.

It’ll take place at Folly Beach County Park, at 1100 West Ashley Avenue, convenient to all our SC vacation rentals, whether you’re in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals or especially if you’re staying in a Folly Beach house Charleston.

Here’s a link where you can register online:  https://www.ccprc.com/Calendar.aspx?EID=5050&day=7&month=11&year=2015&calType=0

You may also register by calling (843) 795-4386.  Note: you must register in advance to attend.

coffee cup

The java-fueled and -themed festival was held last year at Joe Riley Stadium where the Riverdogs play, but this year it’s moved indoors to a cool new venue.   This year it’s in the newly renovated Cigar Factory’s event space, The Cedar Room.  From 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. this Sunday (Nov. 8th) , enjoy brunch items and taste different blends of coffee from more than a dozen local purveyors, including Revelator Coffee Company, King Bean and The Daily.

There will also be coffee roaster and latte art competitions, which sound like a lot of fun.  These baristas take their work/art/craft VERY seriously.

The event is organized by Blue Planet Green Events, and the goal is to explore and celebrate the Holy City’s “emerging craft coffee culture.”   Tickets are $12 in advance; you can learn more at: http://charlestoncoffeecup.com/

The Cigar Factory is located at 701 East Bay Street in downtown Charleston.  It, too, is convenient to all our luxury beach house rentals SC, both Isle of Palms vacation rentals and Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC.

And speaking of Charleston Cups (I can’t help but think that name is a play on the other event going on the very same day)…..don’t forget, this coming Sunday is also the grand event, the Charleston Cup Steeplechase, and tonight is its grand ball downtown at Hibernian Hall.  Click HERE for all the details.

And as always, remember to contact Exclusive Properties when you are looking for rental homes South Carolina, namely a luxury house on Isle of Palms that’s perfect your family gathering or corporate retreat.

All best,
