If you’re here staying in one of Exclusive Properties’ beach rentals Charleston, you’ve picked a great time to do so. Compared to most of the country, the temps are surprisingly temperate, and the rates on SC vacation rentals (both Isle of Palms vacation rentals and Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC) are at their most reasonable.
Not only that, but some of the area’s top attractions are offering some great deals going on during the month of January.
Happy Anniversary to the Yorktown!
First off – this weekend, Patriots Point is offering something they only do once a year. It’s the “Pay What You Can Weekend,” going on this Saturday and Sunday, January 9th and 10th. They will waive the normal admission fees ($20 per adult) and parking fee ($5), and instead you may make a voluntary donation, if you so wish. In other words, you can name your own price.
Patriots Point is home to the USS Yorktown, and the Naval & Maritime Museum. Also, they have the following new exhibits on display:
- The Vietnam Experience
- Apollo 8
- Mount 53
Patriots Point is celebrating its 40th year this year, and this special weekend is an appropriate kickoff. The Yorktown aircraft carrier first opened to visitors on January 3, 1976, when it welcomed 2,601 people onboard. Almost 10 million folks have visited in the decades since.
Executive Director Mac Burdette puts it this way: “We want to start 2016, our 40th year as a museum, off with a bang. What better way to do that, than to offer a chance for everyone in our community to walk through the steps of heroes, regardless of their financial situation. Later this year, when the weather warms up, we’ll have a party to further commemorate the milestone and honor the folks who helped create this wonderful museum we share today.”
For your GPS, Patriots Point is located at 40 Patriots Point Road in Mount Pleasant, off Coleman Boulevard right before you get on the Ravenel Bridge, and is an easy drive from all our beach rentals Charleston, especially our Isle of Palms luxury rentals.

According to their website, “Charleston’s Museum Mile features the richest concentration of cultural sites open to visitors in downtown Charleston. Stroll the one-mile section of Meeting Street and you will discover six museums, five nationally important historic houses, four scenic parks and a Revolutionary War powder magazine, as well as numerous historic houses of worship and public buildings including the Market and City Hall.” http://www.charlestonsmuseummile.org/
