full moon

If you are here staying in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC, whether it’s one of our Isle of Palms vacation rentals or maybe a Folly Beach house Charleston, you might keep your eyes open for three interesting things that will be going on in the nature surrounding your Charleston beach house this weekend.

First up, there’s the issue of tides  –   namely KING TIDES.

King tides are the highest seasonal tides of the year, and they occur when the moon, sun and earth align just so during a new and full moon, when the moon is the closest to the earth.

Here’s an example.  In Charleston, the high tide averages about 5.5 feet high.  However, during a king tide, the high tide may be as high as 7.5 feet.

This “perigean spring tide,” as it’s known, will last through the weekend.

So if you are in one of our beach rentals Charleston, you might want to take note just how close the tide comes to your luxury house on Isle of Palms or Folly.

Second, get set for a BLUE MOON.

A blue moon is a fairly rare occurrence, when you have two full moons in a single calendar month.  The second such moon is called a rare “blue moon”  –  from whence comes the expression, “once in a blue moon.”

There will be one tonight  –  Friday, July 31st, 2015.

This will be the first once since August of 2012  –  and the next one won’t come along until 2018!

Here’s CNN’s take on it:  http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/29/world/blue-moon-july-31-irpt/

Third, keep an eye peeled for a METEOR SHOWER.

This week is the peak of the Delta Aquarid meteor shower.  Just step outside one of our SC vacation rentals and look to the sky, where you can expect to see fifteen to twenty meteors per hour.  A dark sky work best, so head out of our beach house rentals Charleston SC and onto the beach.  It’s a great place to take in all three of these phenomenal phenomena.
