Get DirectionsNew week-long celebration of the visual arts by the Gibbes Museum.
The Gibbes Museum of Art kicked off a new annual festival of the visual arts in 2022, appropriately called “Art Charleston.” It’s a great way to get in the creative mood for Spoleto and Piccolo Spoleto, which happen in late May and into June. 2022's inaugural festival was a huge success, raising half a million dollars, half of which they reinvested back into local businesses. For 2023, organizers planned a whole palette of exciting events to choose from - Art of Design luncheon and lecture, Gibbes on the Street street party, artist lectures, Live at the Gibbes with Grammy-winning Ranky Tanky, Artistic Visionaries Panel, an Evening with Beeple, and a new Artisan Fair which was free to attend.
It was back again in 2024. Dates and details for 2025 haven't been announced yet, so stay tuned.
Some of Art Charleston’s events for 2024 included:
- Art of Design (Wednesday, April 24th) - Luncheon & Lecture with renowned designer Hannah Cecil Gurney, Director of de Gournay;
- Gibbes on the Street (Thursday, April 25th) - Culinary Street Party on Meeting Street with top Charleston chefs, open bar, live music and dancing;
- Freshly Foraged Dinner (Friday, April 26th) - An intimate gourmet farm-to-table al fresco dinner in the Lenhardt Garden, hosted by chef and culinary historian Kevin Mitchell;
- Artisan Fair (Sunday, April 28th) - Curated community market with 40 artist/vendors and makers. Free and open to the public with no ticket required.
