The popular sailing regatta is back.
Charleston Race Week officially began in 1996, when it merged two regattas (the South Atlantic Yacht Racing Association’s PHRF Championships and The Charleston Palmetto Cup) into one.
2025 marks the 27th year of the regatta, which has grown to include entrants from around the globe. In fact, 70% of entrants are “from off.”
Now, it’s the largest keelboat regatta in the Western Hemisphere.
The festival is centered on deck of the USS Yorktown, which they started doing in 2023 and proved to be a perfect match. In 2024 they "took over” the entire ship, including the 280-seat cinema which will host daily race debriefs.
Sailors faced stiff competition, with entries spanning 16 different classes, including one-design fleets - 41 J/70, 26 VX Ones, and 16 Melges 24s.
