One of the premiere events in professional tennis, the Charleston Open brings more than 100 of the world’s top players to the Lowcountry. Past champions include former World No. 1’s Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Steffi Graf, Venus Williams, Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki, among many others.
The Charleston Open is the oldest all-women's professional tournament in the country. This WTA tennis tournament began as the Family Circle Cup on Hilton Head Island in 1973, then moved to Daniel Island near Charleston in 2001. It has been here ever since, attracting the best women tennis players from around the world compete on its green clay courts. Formerly known as the Volvo Car Open, it now has a new sponsor - Credit One - and a stadium that's undergone a massive $50 million renovation and expansion.
The 2022 Credit One Charleston Open was the first event to be held in the new Credit One Stadium. They've increased capacity from 7,000 to 11,000 spectators, added hospitality suites, a VIP Club area, outdoor bar and decks overlooking the Wando River, new food and drink vendors, as well as new players' lounge, locker rooms and treatment areas for the athletes. They estimate the amount of steel they added to the stadium weighs the equivalent of 22 Boeing 737s.
The Daniel Island Ferry now provides ferry service from the downtown Charleston waterfront specifically tailored for the Credit One Charleston Open schedule, and it's proven to be quite popular. Read more here.

Also in 2024, there were some fun extras. You could try your hand at pickleball or padel, a racket sport with its roots in Mexico. There were elevated cuisine options from Sorelle and 167 Raw. Details for 2025 haven't been announced yet, so stay tuned.
Events at Credit One Stadium
The stadium also hosts events all year round in addition to the tennis tournament. These include concerts, music festivals, charity benefits, and special events like cooking contests. Hootie & the Blowfish recorded their 2005 album Live In Charleston in the stadium, and performed numerous "homegrown" concerts benefitting local schools. Other musicians who have performed here include John Mayer, Train, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and countless more. Check out their events page for the whole schedule.
