Help light up Colonial Lake in downtown Charleston.

Colonial Lake in downtown Charleston has undergone several large-scale renovations, with extensive new landscaping and improvements galore.   Located on Broad Street between Rutledge and Ashley Avenues downtown, this 150-year old Charlestonian park is a downtown treasure and popular walking spot.

Each December, it officially kicks off Christmas with “Light the Lake,” when Mayor William Cogswell will light up a beautiful large Christmas right smack in the middle of the water.

The celebration is sponsored by the Charleston Parks Conservancy and will happen from 5:00 till 7:30 p.m. the first Friday in December.

Get set for the following festive fun:

  • Over 500 luminaries lighting the lake;
  • Fun all around the lake, including a snow corner,
  • A reindeer craft station,
  • Gingerbread and cookie decorating
  • Local food trucks including Foxes Fried, Hamby Catering, Independent Grounds Coffeehouse, Kees Kitchen, King of Pops, Pure Fluff Co.
  • D’Allesandro’s Pizza will give away free slices to enjoy while you stroll
  • Plenty of holiday music;
  • Admission and holiday activities are free;
  • The event is rain or shine.
