A National Historic Landmark gets adorned with light in the summer season.

Brookgreen Gardens

Brookgreen Gardens is a rare treasure of art and nature rolled into one.  Established by Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington in 1931, this 9,100 acre preserve near Murrells Inlet combines a vast museum-quality sculpture collection with a wildlife preserve and a botanical garden.   The result is unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Each Christmas season, Brookgreen Gardens is transformed with lights.  Nights of a Thousand Candles has fast become a beloved annual event, when it glows with hand-lit candles and millions of electric sparkling lights situated all throughout the landscape.

They’ve decided to do a similar magical experience in the summer as well, on select Wednesday and Saturday nights  -  Summer Light: Art by Night.  Gates open at 6:00 p.m. (after having closed for the day at 5:00), with special admission required.  Gardens remain open for ticketholders until 10:00 p.m.

Live bands will perform music as you stroll through the gardens.  Explore the Oak Allée, Beyond the Garden Wall, the elegant Conway Glass display, and the Children’s Garden with its "blooming flora.”

Food and beverages will be available, both from Old Kitchen and various food trucks.  You can dine at Austin’s Harvest, their signature restaurant (reservations required).

Check their website for details, reservations and ticket info.  Tickets are separate from daily admission, although they offer deals if you'd like to purchase both.

NOTE: They haven't announced the exact dates and details for 2025 yet, so stay tuned.
