If you’re staying in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals, chances are it will involve a trip to the Charleston peninsula.  And, what’s a vacation without a little shopping?

King Street is, according to the powers that be (or at least the ones who make the best-of lists), one of the top shopping streets in America.

No visit to a Charleston beach house would be quite complete without a drive downtown and a stroll down King (and Meeting and East Bay and Church and a couple others).  Fortunately it’s a convenient drive from all our SC vacation rentals, both our Isle of Palms luxury rentals and our Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC.

King Street is hoppin’ and is in a constant state of growth and change, as some businesses close and more move in.  One new addition is worth noting, as it’s about to celebrate its grand opening with a sweet deal.

A hip new addition to King Street, to check out when visiting our Isle of Palms luxury rentals …

The California hair salon Drybar is opening this week at 556 King Street, and will be occupying both levels of the historic building.  Drybar is a specialty salon offering luxury hair washes and blowouts (no cuts or coloring).

This is the 70th location for Drybar and the very first in the state of South Carolina.

The grand opening celebration happens this Friday, February 10th.  And get this  –  they are offering free washes and blowouts on opening day.  This is thanks to their finance partner ServisFirst Bank, in an effort to support women helping women in business.  Drybar Charleston is owned and operated by Toni Hess, who moved here from New York City.

The salon has 12 styling stations and will be open seven days a week.  You are encouraged to make reservations, although they do accept walk-ins.  They also validate parking, and there is a city garage right behind them.

Here’s their website, where you can make a reservation, or see what’s on the menu as far as styles:  https://www.thedrybar.com/customer/account/login/

It’s a great way to get some sleek beach-y waves for your stay in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals.

This Sunday is Second Sunday near our Isle of Palms luxury rentals

Second Sunday on King Street is one of the most fun and successful recurring events around, and the latest installment is coming up this Sunday, February 12th.

One Sunday per month, the city blocks off the main shopping street  – lower King  –  from Calhoun (Marion Square) to Queen Street, removing all vehicular traffic.  Pedestrians and dogs, cool & timely special event booths, street musicians and outdoor café dining take the place of cars and trucks.

It’s a great idea that’s had a rather blessed existence.  In the years that it’s been going on, it’s been pretty rare that the event has seen unpleasant weather.  For those who have been to our rental homes South Carolina before, whether you’ve stayed in Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston, you may have already been to Second Sunday or at least heard about it.  Hopefully you were lucky/smart enough to have your stay in a beach house Charleston coincide with the second Sunday of the month.
