Many kids are back in school, the College of Charleston is cranking up next week, and although it may seem like summer is over, it’s definitely not, and in fact it’s a great time to be in one of our Isle of Palms luxury rentals.
When young folks head back to class, there’s decidedly more space on the sand near all our SC vacation rentals, either Isle of Palms vacation rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston. Most of our luxury beach house rentals SC are oceanfront or right near it, so it’s a pleasant plus when the summer crowds start to die down.

Also going on tomorrow on the Isle, near our Isle of Palms luxury rentals…
It’s the IOP’s 18th Annual Half Rubber Tournament. Half rubber is a century-old Lowcountry sport which got its start in Charleston and Savannah before World War I. It’s kind of like the southern version of stickball. You play with what amounts to a broom handle (much harder to hit with than a bat), and a rubber ball cut in half – which makes for very unpredictable knuckleball-like movement.
David Quick of the Post and Courier wrote an interesting article about it here: http://www.postandcourier.com/20160817/160819446/never-seen-half-rubber-head-to-the-isle-of-palms-on-saturday
Play starts tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 8:00 a.m. at the Isle’s Recreation Department fields on 28th Avenue. Five teams will be coming from Savannah and elsewhere in Georgia, and ten teams from the Charleston area will all square off in the tournament.
Here’s the official tournament website: http://www.halfrubber.com/tournaments/2016/iop-tournament
