Big news on the airport front  -  JetBlue will soon be flying nonstop from Charleston to Los Angeles. This marks the first nonstop flight of any carrier between not just Charleston but anywhere in the state of South Carolina, and California. Turns out, there’s been quite a pent-up desire for such a service.  Helen Hill heads up Explore Charleston and chairs the Charleston County Aviation Authority.  She says people from California are among the top folks who inquire about coming to the Lowcountry.   That’s been the case for a couple decades. Elliott Summey, CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, has this to say: “Los Angeles service from Charleston International Airport has been a key strategic objective for Team CHS.  JetBlue’s new service will allow both business and leisure travelers convenient access to and from one of the most important airport gateways to the world.  We are obviously delighted with this milestone addition of air service for the region.” Hill had this to add:  “Being able to fly nonstop from LAX to Charleston will turn Californians' interest into action.  There is no doubt that the new service will provide a timely boost as our visitor industry continues its economic rebound.  And since LAX is our largest market without direct service, we share JetBlue’s confidence in the long-term success of this exciting new route. Our work toward its success begins today.”
