Holiday happenings seem to be multiplying as if by magic, and many are right near by your Charleston beach house.
The Lowcountry is definitely a great place to spend the Christmas season, especially if you’re lucky enough to be booked in one of our beach rentals Charleston, whether it’s a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston.
As that last BLOG has shown, there’s a whole lotta festivity going on this weekend, like the Isle of Palms Holiday Street Festival and Tree Lighting, especially convenient to our Isle of Palms vacation rentals. Well, there are a few more things to add to the list, and they’re pretty big deals.
Yet another fun run, tree lighting – plus a parade near your Charleston beach house!
First up, tomorrow morning is the 26th annual Reindeer Run (and Walk), another beloved local holiday event that comes on the heels of last month’s Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble 5K.
The race promises a great combo of creative costumes, prize money, children and dogs. Unlike the Gobble Wobble, strollers and dogs are allowed and encouraged, plus there’s free beer and a major after party for those of age.
The Reindeer Run is jolly jog or jaunt (5K, or in American terms 3.1 miles) through the streets of downtown Charleston to get you in the mood for Christmas and is perfect for all fitness levels. There will be awards for kids 6 & under and adults to 99. If your Reindeer isn’t as fit as Rudolph, walk the course and enjoy all the festivities along the way. Either way, come dressed in your holiday costumes to win fabulous prizes. Runners start at 9:00 a.m., walkers at 9:05 a.m. The race begins and ends in front of the newly renovated Southend Brewery, now known as Lagunitas Taproom, and it has a rather renown after party and live music with the Cordovans. It’s costume friendly, is a terrific fundraiser for MUSC’s Children’s Hospital, and is sponsored by Half-Moon Outfitters. It’s also convenient from all our SC vacation rentals. Here’s the official website: http://www.reindeerrun.org/
Online registration is over, but you can register in person today until 6:00 p.m. at the National Guard Armory at 245 Mathis Ferry Road in Mount Pleasant, an easy drive from our Isle of Palms luxury rentals. It’s $40 adults, $30 for kids. Race day registration will be available tomorrow morning for from 7:00 a.m. till 8:30 a.m. out front of Lagunitas.
It’s Holiday Market time near your Charleston beach house
This Saturday and Sunday are special holiday editions of the nationally ranked Charleston Farmers Market. It’s happening both days from 9:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. in Marion Square, downtown. It’s a perfect place to do some Christmas shopping for creative, uniquely Lowcountry gifts.
Marion Square is centrally located downtown on the peninsula, bordered by Meeting, Calhoun and King Streets. It’s pretty much an equidistant drive from all our rental homes South Carolina. If you aren’t already booked in a Charleston beach house, don’t worry – just give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to get you paired up with great beach house rentals Charleston SC.
Head out from your Charleston beach house this Sunday for some HOLIDAY MAGIC in HISTORIC CHARLESTON…
Also going on this weekend is HOLIDAY MAGIC in HISTORIC CHARLESTON. It includes the downtown Charleston Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting, which is undergoing a bit of a tweak this year. Normally in years past, the tree lighting was held on a Saturday night and the parade on a Sunday. This year, they’re combining the two, and they’ll both happen this Sunday, December 4th.
This will be the 36th annual incarnation of the Charleston Christmas Parade, sponsored by the City of Charleston and the Charleston Fire Department. Santa will make a grand appearance. The parade will start at the beautiful and newly renovated Colonial Lake (where Broad and Barre Streets meet), travel over Broad Street, up King Street (against the traditional flow of traffic) and finish at Marion Square. And as per tradition, Santa will be there at the culmination of all the floats, marching bands, dogs, horses and other merrymakers, and he will be available for photos.
The parade begins at 2:00 and finishes at approximately 4:00. It’s a very family-friendly event, so load up everyone from your Charleston beach house and head downtown. It’s a great parade but not so crazy-crowded like in some cities that you can’t find a good spot along the parade route. Here’s the official website: http://www.charleston-sc.gov/index.aspx?NID=1073
After the parade, get set for Christmas Tree Lighting in Marion Square, conveniently located at the end of the parade route. There the big guy in the red suit will arrive to help the mayor illuminate the 64-foot Tree of Lights.
Live music will begin at 4:30pm with the Charleston Jazz Orchestra offering a lineup of big band holiday selections, as well as these other participants include:
- The Plantation Singers and Carl Bright Singers, with D’Jaris Whipper-Lewis
- CSO Trumpet Ensemble
- Charleston Caroling Co.
- Taylor Festival Choir
- “A Boom Bap Xmas” featuring Manny Houston and Charleston Characters
- Ashley Hall Swing Choir
- YeeHaw Junction
- ELF Steppers from Edith L. Frierson Elementary
- The Charlestones
- Charleston Children’s Choir
- Charleston Sparks Dance Co.
The tree lighting ceremony itself (with another appearance by Santa) will happen about 6:00 p.m.
