When you stay in one of our rental homes South Carolina, you’re sure to enjoy natural ocean beauty, world-class cuisine, charm and history… and great music, to boot, which you can find on land or sea.
This weekend marks the new spring installment of a music festival that’s been growing in popularity ever since its inception. It’s the Southern Ground Music & Food Festival, which normally takes place in October.
This time around they’ve switched the season, and it’s looking to be an excellent idea. The weather’s warming up, the flowers are blooming, festival season has cranked up in the Lowcountry, and people aren’t hunkered inside watching football.
The musical lineup is pretty impressive. Get set for:
- Zac Brown Band (the hosts)
- Tedeschi Trucks Band
- Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers
- Michael Franti & Spearhead
- The Marshall Tucker Band
- Kacey Musgraves
- Thomas Rhett
- Sam Bush
- And more!
Southern Ground is also well known for its great Lowcountry cuisine as well, with some terrific local offerings: http://charleston.southerngroundfestival.com/food-vendors
The festival is going on this Saturday and Sunday, April 16-17th. It takes place at MUSC Health Stadium (formerly known as Blackbaud Stadium), 1900 Daniel Island Drive on Daniel Island, which is a convenient drive from all our SC vacation rentals, either Isle of Palms vacation rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston. If you’re in a luxury house on Isle of Palms, just head over to Mount Pleasant, take I-526 and get off the second exit onto Daniel Island, and follow the signs.
Rockin’ harbor cruises near our rental homes South Carolina
If you’re coming to one of our rental homes South Carolina, another fun thing to do is go out on the water in a boat. Combine that with great music and good food, and you have a top-notch evening activity sure to please the adults staying in your Charleston beach house.
That’s the idea behind a new summer series of harbor cruises – “Jam on the Water Concert Cruise” – happening each month aboard the Carolina Queen. It’s a collaborative effort by Charleston Harbor Tours, Follywood Productions and Sweetwater Brewing Co. Popular local bands pay tribute to rock and roll legends, local art vendors will be on board, and there will be food by favorite area food trucks or restaurants.
It’ll be happening once a month from now until October, and the inaugural one’s TONIGHT.
It’s The Reckoning, a Grateful Dead tribute band, with food by Alligator Jack’s.
Future cruises include:
May 6th – Josh Roberts & The Hinges (Neil Young) – food by Charleston Caribbean Creole
June 10th – Gaslight Street (Little Feat)
July 1st – 54 Bicycles (Widespread Panic)
August 5th – Runaway Gin (Phish)
September 2nd – BYOG (The Band)
October 7th – The Reckoning (Grateful Dead)
October 28th – Soul Fish (Halloween 80’s tribute show)
You catch the boat at Charleston City Marina at 17 Lockwood Drive, which is an easy drive from all our beach house rentals Charleston SC, be they Isle of Palms luxury rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston.
Boarding is at 6:30, and the cruise lasts from 7:00 till 9:30 p.m. Here’s more info: http://www.charlestonharbortours.com/main/specialevent/44
Yet more farmers market good news near our rental homes South Carolina
And as a follow-up to THIS blog and THIS one about farmers markets in the area – officials in Mount Pleasant JUST announced some exciting news. For the first time, they are creating a local fisherman’s market, where you can buy super-fresh seafood from the shrimpers and fishermen who operate out of Shem Creek. It passed by a unanimous vote.
The market will happen Saturday mornings from 8:00 a.m. till noon at the official Mount Pleasant farmers market location, in front of Moultrie Middle School on Coleman Boulevard.
They are expecting it to open April 23rd.
This is a great way to support local fisherman, who are having a tough go of it for a myriad of reasons. And face it – one of the reasons you come to stay in our rental homes South Carolina at the beach is to enjoy fresh seafood. It doesn’t get much fresher that buying it direct from the person who caught it (unless, perhaps, you catch it yourself.)
