If you are interested in historic buildings, Southern history, or even beautiful settings, Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens is a perfect place to visit on your Isle of Palms vacation.
The Boone Hall Plantation and Gardens was originally settled in 1681 in a land grant that included 470 acres. The former house was an all-wooden house that was raised in 1790 in order to house the cultivators of the land. In 1935, a new home was built in the Colonial Revival style to mimic the colonial style plantations that were popular during the American Colonial days of the early 1700s.
Along with the main house are nine original slave cabins that date back to 1790, a smokehouse built in 1750, a cotton gin house from 1853, and the grand Avenue of Oaks that was created in 1743. This oak tree row runs three quarters of a mile from the entrance of the property to the front house gates. This iconic oak entrance has been featured in many movies and TV shows, most notably The Queen and The Notebook.
Visitors can enter the home and explore the grounds, but must pay admission to the grounds. Admission comes with multiple Boone Hall Plantation tours that include a guided tour through the house and a plantation coach tour.
