Several of the family’s members hold a prominent place in history, including Henry Middleton, who was the second president of the First Continental Congress, and Arthur Middleton, who signed the Declaration of Independence.

Guided tours of the Middleton Place Plantation House Museum are available daily, where you will get the chance to see what it was like to live on a plantation from before the Revolution through the Civil War. Furniture, photos, a variety of household items, and a facsimile copy of the Declaration of Independence on silk are all on display.
The Middleton Place Plantation grounds are also home to 65 acres of gardens, declared as the oldest landscaped gardens in the nation. With careful planning, the gardens are cultivated to be in bloom year-round. Flowers, such as daffodils, roses, lilies, snapdragons, hydrangeas, and more, create a vibrant array of colors everywhere you look.
