If you’re planning on staying in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC, you just might want to consider booking your Charleston beach house for the second weekend.
Second Sunday on King Street is one of the most fun and successful recurring events around, and it’s about to crank into high gear for the high season.
For those who have been to our rental homes South Carolina before, whether you’ve stayed in Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach rentals Charleston, you may have been to one of these or at least heard about them. Hopefully you were lucky/smart enough to have your Charleston beach house stay coincide with the second Sunday of the month.
One Sunday per month, the city blocks off the main shopping street – lower King – from Calhoun (Marion Square) to Queen Street, removing all vehicular traffic. Pedestrians and dogs and cool & timely special event booths and street musicians and outdoor café dining take the place of cars and trucks.
It’s a great idea that’s had a rather blessed existence. In the many years that it’s been going on, it’s very rarely been rained out.
King Street has been heralded as one of the best shopping streets in America, and by removing the stress of traffic (and adding in the extras), the experience is truly enhanced. If you’re staying in a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston, a trip to King Street is a must. And on a second Sunday is the best possible way to experience it, so take note when scheduling your stay in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC.
The next installment is next Sunday, April 10th, and as always it will be from 1:00 till 5:00 in the afternoon.
King Street is on a roll, having been named one of America’s ten GREATEST STREETS.
The College of Urban Studies at The College of Charleston compiled a list of the main things that contribute toward King being so great. According to their analysis, King Street:
- is a human scaled street
- invites pedestrians
- exhibits natural smart growth
- blends seamlessly into its surroundings
- reminds us of our past, with an eye to the future
- has energy
- fosters an agglomeration of economies.
King Street is an easy drive from all our SC vacation rentals, whether you’re staying in a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston. If you are driving downtown from our Isle of Palms vacation rentals or any of our beach rentals Charleston, parking downtown can be a bit of a challenge.
Parking tip when heading there from one of our luxury beach house rentals SC…
One good option is to park in one of several parking garages run by the city. These allow you to park in the shade (unless you are on the top level). As a nice bonus, the city offers two hours of free parking in most of their garages during Second Sundays with a voucher. Here’s a link to print a voucher: http://susanlucas.typepad.com/2nd%20Sunday%20Oct%20Parking.pdf (If you’re in a Charleston beach house and don’t have access to a printer, they usually have them available to pick up at Second Sunday information booths, while supplies last).
So enjoy one of America’s best streets, and when you are looking for the best in luxury beach house rentals SC, remember to call EP.
