Well, if you’re in one of our beach rentals Charleston right now, you’ll know that the weather is positively gorgeous.  Sunny Carolina blue skies, warm temps well into the 70’s, low humidity, a gentle breeze.

The plants are flowers are beginning to bloom.  I’m talking, not just camellias, which are supposed to be blooming in February, but other things like azaleas.  Plants and trees are starting to bud out already.

The warm weather is noteworthy enough that the Post & Courier did a major story on it.  Spring is February?  You betcha.  Read more HERE.

So it truly is a great time to be in one of our SC vacation rentals, be it a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston.  Basically spring has arrived three weeks early.  So you can enjoy great offseason rates on our beach house rentals Charleston SC and yet enjoy truly beautiful weather.

Forget N’awlins and the crazy crowds.  Celebrate Mardi Gras near our beach rentals Charleston!

Coming up this Tuesday, February 28th is Mardi Gras.  If you happen to be staying in one of our luxury beach house rentals SC this weekend, especially a Charleston beach house out on Folly, you might want to check out this… it’s  FollyGras!

Tomorrow (Saturday, February 25th) it’s the 10th annual FollyGras Parade & Street Party… on Center Street, which will be closed off for the revelry from noon-5 p.m.

Get set for:

  • A big parade at noon;
  • A children’s pet parade;
  • Awards for best Cajun or Creole cuisine, float and costume;
  • Street Festival from 1:00 – 5:00;
  • Live music by Gaslight Street, Soul Fish, Josh Roberts & The Hinges, The Island Trio
  • Plenty of local food vendors;
  • kids’ activities;
  • Bungee trampoline;
  • Ride the mechanical shark!
  • Proceeds benefit local charities and nonprofits.

Here’s the whole schedule:  http://visitfolly.com/events/

All this Mardi Gras fun is most convenient to Folly Beach rentals Charleston, of course, but it’s not that far from our Isle of Palms vacation rentals, either.  That’s one of the many nice things about the Lowcountry  –  nothing is too far from anything else.

Another Mardi Gras event near our beach rentals Charleston

Tomorrow is also the 14th annual Mardi Crawl on Shem Creek, sponsored by the Lowcountry Parrot Head Club, which encourages you to come “party with a purpose.”  You’ll go from one restaurant to the next, to answer a trivia question, enjoy food & drink specials, interactive games and live music  –  all to help out several great charities (the Alzheimer’s Association, Pet Helpers, the Ronald McDonald House, Hospitality Heroes, HALOS and Toys for Tots).

It takes place at Shem Creek in Mount Pleasant, an easy drive from all our rental homes South Carolina.

Registration begins at noon at Red’s Ice House (98 Church Street), and the event starts at 1:00 p.m.  The crawl lasts till 6:00, and the afterparty cranks up at Red’s Ice House at 7:00 p.m. with music by The Dave Landeo Band and the Three Sheets Island Band.  Tickets are $25 advance at $30 at the event.  Here’s more info:  http://dev1.lcparrotheads.org/

Race Gala near our beach rentals Charleston

As I mentioned in that previous blog, coming up is the 40th running of the Cooper River Bridge Run.  They are planning special events each of the 40 days leading up to the race.

Coming up tomorrow night, it’s the 40th Anniversary Gala, to be held at the SC Aquarium downtown.  It looks to be a lot of fun, as you are encouraged to wear a tux and running shoes, or other such creative attire.  Tickets are $50 and include food, bar beverages and live music.  Read more here:  https://tickets.postandcourier.com/e/crbrgala

And the Oscar goes to….

This coming Sunday is the 89th annual Academy Awards, and one of our beach rentals Charleston is a great place to watch the ceremonies.  They have plenty of flat screens on which to watch the red carpet, catch the winners and their scintillating speeches, and even accommodate those in your Charleston beach house who’d rather watch something else.

The Oscars air on ABC, which is seen locally on Channel 4.  The ceremony itself starts at 8:30 p.m. (and lasts till 11:30), but the so-called “starting ceremonies” begin at 7:00.  Also, ABC is beginning early with the countdown to the Oscars beginning at 3:30 and red carpet coverage starting at 5:00.  It’s just like the hoopla buildup to the Superbowl.

For the fashionistas out there, E! Network has their “Live from the Red Carpet” starting at 5:30.

So happy Mardi Gras in the Lowcountry, enjoy this gorgeous weather, and remember to call EP for the best in beach house rentals, namely Isle of Palms luxury rentals.

All best,
Lowcountry Lisa
