New American Fare Near Isle of Palms
The Obstinate Daughter’s unique name was inspired by a political cartoon made in London following the Battle of Sullivan’s Island during the Revolutionary Period. After Colonel William Moultrie and the defenders of Fort Sullivan fended off the British fleet’s attempt to capture the city of Charleston, a cartoon was published in London depicting “Miss Carolina Sulivan, one of the obstinate daughters of America, 1776.” Paying homage to the defiant and steadfast nature of Sullivan Island’s local history, The Obstinate Daughter serves up New American dishes with a Southern flair. The Obstinate Daughter can fit everyone tasting needs! The restaurant serves brunch, lunch, and dinner for your palate’s enjoyment between 11:00am and 10:00pm on Monday through Friday, from 10:00am to 11:00pm on Saturdays, and from 10:00am to 10:00pm on Sundays. Brunch consists of favorites with a twist. Cinnamon buns are served with caramel and pecans. Sorghum waffles are paired with local berries, almonds, and whipped cream. Eggs Benedict include pork loin, while Eggs in Purgatory have a Mediterranean influence of feta, tomato, and olive on flatbread. And frittatas are topped with seasonal vegetables, mozzarella, basil, and garlic toast. Farro with chicken, flatbreads, chowders, gnocchi, Catalan seafood stew, and smoked local fish all grace the savory entrees available all day. Sicilian swordfish, lowcountry shrimp rolls, griddled Octopus, and geechie fries with salsa rosa add dynamic flavors to the menu. You’ll also find a wide range of pastas and pizzas on the menu that are available all day, sampling from gourmet ingredients while referencing pop culture. Try the Duck Amuck pizza with duck confit, gorgonzola and mozzarella cheeses, roasted grapes, arugula, and vincotto, or the Lieutenant Dan pizza with shrimp, arugula pesto, Nicoise olive, lemon, and artichoke. Ricotta gnocchi is served with a short rib ragu and a horseradish gremolata, while chestnut taliatelle is filled topped with pancetta and parmesan. Pair your meal with a cocktail, a glass of wine, or a beer off of the restaurant’s extensive drink menu, which samples from breweries, vineyards, and distilleries from near and far.
