If you’re in a luxury house on Isle of Palms this week, Thursday (October 5th) is shaping up to be a bit eventful.

First off, it’s the latest installment of the new island farmers’ market.

Check out the Harvest Moon rising over your luxury house on Isle of Palms

Also this Thursday is a rather neat celestial event.  The “Harvest Moon” is the full moon that happens closest to the autumnal equinox, September 22nd.   Normally that would be the full moon in September.  But once about every three years, it’s the full moon in October that’s closer and thus dubbed the Harvest Moon.

The moon will be 100% full at 2:40 p.m. this Thursday, October 5th. It will rise at 6:51 p.m. Thursday and set at 7:40 a.m. Friday morning.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac had this to say: “For several evenings, the moonrise comes soon after sunset.  This results in an abundance of bright moonlight early in the evening, which was a traditional aide to farmers and crews harvesting their summer-grown crops. Hence, it’s called the ‘Harvest Moon!”

They also tend to be closer to the horizon and appear with warm hues like orange, red or golden yellow.  Should be a lovely sight Thursday night above the ocean near our beach rentals Charleston.

From your luxury house on Isle of Palms, go downtown to check out Fall Tour of Homes

It’s finally beginning to feel like fall.  That means it’s time once again to tour historic homes and gardens, a great thing to do while staying in a Charleston beach house.

This Thursday marks the start of the annual Fall Tours of Homes, History & Architecture, put on by the Preservation Society of Charleston.

For more than four decades, the Preservation Society has organized and offered this chance for you to experience historic Charleston from an insider’s viewpoint.  It’s their primary fundraiser for the day-in, day-out work they do all year long to help keep Charleston so charming.

History does not withstand the pressures of modernization and “progress” without a lot of passionate, hard-working, committed people who understand its relevance and beauty, and do what they can to make sure it endures for future generations.  They understand the idea that, “Preservation is Progress.”

The Society is a local partner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  In many ways Charleston has become a national trailblazer, a shining example of how to preserve our past while making it a vital part of our present.

This year’s Fall Tour of Homes begins this Thursday, October 5th and runs through Sunday, October 29th, when some of the peninsula’s most exclusive properties are open for tours.  They’re generally scheduled in three-hour blocks of time, either afternoon or evenings, depending on the property.

This is a beloved annual event, and one of our luxury beach house rentals SC makes an ideal home base.  Most of the tours take place downtown (South of Broad), a convenient drive from all our Isle of Palms luxury rentals and our Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC.  That way you can experience the charm and history of America’s best city while also enjoying the ocean near your beach house Charleston.

Here are some of the options, which aren’t limited to just home & garden tours:

  • South of Broad Tour
  • “Four for $40” Tours (Rutledge Avenue, Legare Street, King Street, Broad Street,Upper Tradd, Meeting Street)
  • Gardens of Historic Charleston
  • Church Street Tour
  • Private Gardens of Charleston
  • Photography Walkabout and Workshop
  • Charleston Renaissance
  • Preservation on Progress
  • Saved from Wreck and Ruin
  • East Battery Tour
  • Tradd Street Tour
  • The Battery Tour
  • “Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd Walking Tour
  • Amazing Buildings of Charleston Walking Tours
  • Preservation Society Plantation Picnic
  • Enduring Traditions Walking Tour
  • Living in History Lunch Lectures
  • And many more.

For all the details or to book and purchase tickets, visit their website: http://www.thefalltours.org/

Again, the festival is primarily based downtown, so it’s convenient to all our rental homes South Carolina, especially our Isle of Palms vacation rentals.

So enjoy some of what makes Charleston so charming, and when you are looking for the most beautiful luxury house on Isle of Palms, call EP.

All best,
