If you need something fun to pass the time and stimulate the brain, try your hand at some Charleston trivia. Trivia nights at area bars and restaurants are a fun and popular craze. At least they were before the coronavirus quarantine hit. It’s rather amazing how much arcane info we store in the recesses of our minds. Trivia quizzes are a neat way to tap into those storehouses of useless factoids. The whole trivia phenomenon has its roots in the board game Trivial Pursuit, which first hit store shelves back in 1981 and took America and the world by storm. Believe it or not, it began in Canada. By 2014, they had sold more than 100 million units of the game. Over the years, they’ve produced over a hundred different variations and themed editions of Trivial Pursuit, in 26 countries and 17 different languages. Versions include Junior, All-Star Sports, 1980’s, 1990’s, Baby Boomers, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Saturday Night Live. Well, there’s a fun local twist on the trivia craze. You don’t have to gather a bunch of people to take part. Get set for Charleston Trivia! It’s a giant trivia quiz that’s been pulled together by a great team at Charleston’s main newspaper, the Post & Courier. Kalyn Oyer, Adam Parker, Lauren Sausser and Alex Peeples, who write for Charleston Scene, Arts and Features, and the like, have assembled 100 Charleston Trivia questions sure to challenge even the most diehard Charlestonian. You just might end up learning a lot about the Holy City.
