It doesn’t matter what time of year you’re here staying in a beach house Charleston, chances are there’s great live music going on - not just during Spoleto or music festivals. The Lowcountry is growing a thriving music scene and has launched some globally known groups in recent years, like Band of Horses and Shovels & Rope. Speaking of S&R and music festivals, the popular duo will be launching a new music (and food) festival here in Charleston this coming April (the 22nd and 23rd). It’s called the High Water Festival, and the lineup is impressive: in addition to Shovels & Rope, get set for The Avett Brothers; The Shins; Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats; Dawes; Jump, Little Children; JD McPherson; Slow Runner; and Matthew Logan Vasquez. It’ll take place at Riverfront Park in North Charleston and promises to be quite a weekend. Here’s the festival’s site: http://www.highwaterfest.com/
Live music each week near your beach house Charleston ...
If you’re staying in one of our rental homes South Carolina, either Isle of Palms luxury rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston, you don’t even have to head across the big bridges to hear a lineup of live music. Awendaw Green up Highway 17 has created an exciting alternative and a chance to hear a great variety of music in a cool, laid-back setting. It’s a venue for original local and regional music, and it’s drawing some great up-and-coming acts with diverse, global sounds. The current series of concerts take place in an old barn, but it’s a barn with professional sound equipment and technician. It was created and is managed by the visionary Eddie White, and it’s grown in popularity with each passing year. The Awendaw Green Barn Jams take place year-round on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. till 10:00 p.m. Admission is a suggested $5, and it’s a family friendly event, good for all ages of family and friends staying in your Charleston beach house. Leashed pets are also welcome. Seating is provided or you can bring your own, and you’re encouraged to gather around the bonfire, visit and nosh. It’s BYOB, and food is available for purchase, including wood-fired pizza and fresh grilled oysters in season. This Wednesday, December 28th, it’s the last barn jam of the year, and promises to be a good one. It’s the reunion of the Whisperjets, who played here on December 28th, 2011 - and haven’t been in the same place since. They describe themselves as a “brass-infused pop-rock quintet.” The rest of the lineup includes:
- Jane Kramer, an Americana/Appalachian folk singer & songwriter from Asheville;
- Country pop singer-songwriter Haley Mae Campbell;
- Hymn for Her, which is touring the country and has been described as a “juiced-up backwoods country blues duo…”
