Well, Monday is Labor Day.  That means this weekend is the last of peak summer season for our luxury beach house rentals SC.  Folks will be hitting the beach for one last hurrah before throwing themselves back into school and work routines. As I blogged about last time, this week marked the annual seasonal reappearance of Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks.  Hard to believe they’ve been around for 15 years. If you’re on Facebook, you may know about the funny folks who make the “It’s a Southern Thing” videos.  They are hilarious takes on life in general but more specifically, on life in the South.  You don’t have to be a southerner to get the joke.  The one about a woman’s purse is a stitch.  So is the one about Chick-Fil-A. Just saw one on the appearance of fall/pumpkin spice below the Mason-Dixon Line, that generally kicks in around Labor Day.  Watch it here. So even though they might be selling PSLs at the local Starbucks, it doesn’t mean it feels like fall in the Lowcountry.  Water temps near our Isle of Palms are balmy, and the sky is Carolina blue.  The coming months are actually an ideal time to be in Charleston.  Less crowds, better rates.

Labor Day means Football Season

  One sure sign that fall is on the horizon is the start of football season, which kicks off tomorrow.  And boy is it a big thing in the South. Saturday is the first game of the season for Clemson, Carolina, and just about everybody else in college football.  Check out the graphic for all the games going on this weekend. A beach house actually makes a great place to watch the big game.  Plenty of flat screen TVs throughout the home, and large open gourmet kitchens to whip up snacks galore.

Last Day at Wet, Wonderful Waterparks

  Monday, Labor Day, is the last day to enjoy the waterparks around Charleston.  Let me clarify that  -  it’s the last day for two-legged ones to use the parks.  Splash Island and Whirlin’ Waters will be open next weekend for dogs only. Read more about their Dog Day Afternoon here.  Adults are free with their dog’s admission.

Speaking of Dogs, Monday is Dog Day Afternoon at the Joe

  The Charleston RiverDogs have a fun afternoon planned for Labor Day itself, and you’re encouraged to bring along your dog. It’s Dog Day Afternoon at the Joe.  Get set for:

  • $1 hot dogs and $1 beers;
  • Dog-themed games between the innings;
  • “Fan Appreciation Day” where they’ll announce the “Top Dog” player of the season;
  • Announcements of Employee of the Year and winner of the Ashton T. Phillips Award for community work;
  • First pitch at 2:05 p.m.;
  • The Joe is located at 360 Fishburne Street downtown Charleston.

So enjoy the dog days of summer with your favorite canine.  And remember to call EP when you're looking for the perfect place to stay at the beach. All best, Lowcountry Lisa your Isle of Palms vacation blogger
