If you’re in one of our beach rentals Charleston this week, as usual there’s a lot to do. The weather has a delightful coolness to the air today, and this weekend promises to be stellar.
This truly is an ideal time to come to one of our SC vacation rentals, either Isle of Palms luxury rentals or a Folly Beach house Charleston. Peak rates for our luxury beach house rentals SC don’t kick in for another couple weeks, and yet the temps are delightful and the calendar interesting.
Tomorrow - Saturday, May 7th - marks the 142nd (!!) running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs… and yet you don’t have to be in Kentucky to get in on the fun.
The Alley, a very hip and happening bowling alley and party venue downtown, is hosting what sounds like a really fun Kentucky Derby Viewing Party.
Get set for:
- Bourbon tastings by Bulleit
- Kentucky-themed cuisine such as Hot Brown Sandwiches, country ham biscuit sliders & fried chicken
- Live music by the Bluestone Ramblers Bluegrass Band
- Free sports book/horse contest
- Raffle and other fun things
- Wear Derby-like attire… think big hats, bow ties and seersucker!
- The event lasts from 5:00-9:00 p.m., with music starting at 5:30

The Alley is located at 131 Columbus Street, convenient to all our rental homes South Carolina, whether you’re staying in Isle of Palms vacation rentals or Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC.
Yet more Derby parties near our beach rentals Charleston...
Eater Charleston also has seven other Derby-centered parties at other fun venues, bars or restaurants around Charleston, all of which are an easy drive from our beach rentals Charleston. Here’s their list: http://charleston.eater.com/maps/kentucky-derby-party-event-charleston
The Derby has been called the fastest two minutes in sports, and the race itself starts at 6:34 p.m. on Saturday.
If you’d rather stay in your Charleston beach house and watch it there (not a bad idea either), here’s information on the televised coverage: http://www.sbnation.com/2016/5/2/11551662/2016-kentucky-derby-schedule-times-tv-coverage-events
Plus, a little island history near our beach rentals Charleston…
If you’re in a luxury house on Isle of Palms, you might be especially interested in something going on next week. The City of Isle of Palms has been sponsoring a series about the history of the island - The “Island History Series” - and it’s been getting a great response.
The latest installment promises to be a fascinating one… it’s stories and a roundtable discussion about Hurricane Hugo, which hit in the fall of 1989. This storm changed the Isle in a myriad of ways, not to mention providing the impetus to build the IOP Connector. Until then, the IOP could only be accessed via Sullivan’s Island and the Ben Sawyer drawbridge.
The event is free and takes place this Tuesday (May 10th) at 5:30 p.m. at the IOP’s Rec Center. It’s located in the middle of the island, at 24 Twenty-eighth Avenue.
Here’s more on the city’s website: http://www.iop.net/adult-programs#iophistoryevent
So enjoy the Derby while here in the Lowcountry, and remember to call EP when you are searching for the best in beach rentals Charleston.
