If you’re here in a Charleston beach house, no doubt you’re been hearing much of the heartbreaking news coming out of Texas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. This storm made landfall as a Cat 4, and dropped record-breaking amounts of rainfall on huge areas of Texas and into Louisiana.  The devastation is overwhelming, and estimates at damage suggest it will be as much as Hurricane Katrina and Superstorm Sandy combined. Amid all of the tragedy, there have also been remarkable stories of heroism, of ordinary citizens jumping into action to help their fellow man.  The Cajun Navy showed up in force, and the folks on their air boats and flat boats continue in the massive rescue efforts to save lives, of men and women, children, infants and pets. The amount of help needed is more than local authorities can handle, and every little bit of outside assistance counts. This is where you come in. Mel and Shelley Miles, who own Exclusive Properties, decided to do something about it.  Thanks to a friend with Smith Dray Lines, a big tractor trailer truck is now parked at our office.  We are accepting donations for folks who have suffered due to the flooding and storm. We’ll be accepting donations until next Friday, September 8th, when the truck will be driven to the Salvation Army in Houston, Texas.  They will receive the truckload and put it to great use among those in desperate need of basic supplies. According to the Salvation Army, they basically need everything.

Supplies needed for Hurricane Harvey Relief efforts include:

  • Bottled water
  • Food
  • Clothing
  • Sheets & towels
  • Pet food, supplies & pet carriers

Baby Supplies

  • Formula
  • Baby food
  • Bottles
  • Pacifiers
  • Diapers
  • Wipes

Hygiene Products

  • Soap
  • Shampoo
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Razors
  • Deodorant
  • Hair brushes and combs
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Body wipes
  • Hand sanitizer

They also could really use financial donations.  Please make the check out to “Salvation Army of Houston,” and we will get it to them. Let’s fill this rig! Our office is located at 1116 Palm Boulevard, on the corner of Palm and J. C. Long Boulevard, not far from all our Isle of Palms vacation rentals. If you have any unopened goods left over from your stay this week in a Charleston beach house, you can drop them by on your way off the island, and we’ll get them to folks in need.
