TBBS  -  Stock up on beach reading while staying in our luxury beach house rentals SC

One of the most popular and relaxing things to do while staying in a Charleston beach house is to a read a book.  Sure, there are more high-tech ways to enjoy a novel  -  kindle, smartphone, iPad, tablets of all sorts.  But to be honest, sand and electronics don’t usually mix very well. When it comes right down to it, it’s hard to beat flipping the paper pages of a really engrossing story while taking in the sunshine and all its good vitamin D… either on the beach or while lounging on the deck of a luxury house on Isle of Palms or a Folly Beach house Charleston. If you’re in one of our SC vacation rentals this weekend, there’s a great opportunity to stock up your winter reading material or get some Christmas gifts  -  at a great price, and for a worthy cause.  It’s the Charleston County Library’s annual fall book sale, also known as “That BIG Book Sale” (or TBBS for short).  This is the 36th year that it’s taken place. That Big Book Sale

Here’s some of what you’ll find at the book sale this weekend:

  • Admission is absolutely free!
  • More than 60,000 items to choose from
  • Books, books and more books -  both fiction and nonfiction, hardback and paperback
  • Music CDs, books on CD, and DVDs
  • Games
  • Prints for framing
  • Sheet music
  • Maps
  • New Christmas tree ornaments folded into creative shapes, made from recycled books
  • Non-fiction books on cooking, art, architecture, history, travel, religion, sports and science
  • 30 tables of books for toddlers to young adults
  • Prices start at just $1.00 (and only 50 cents for children’s books).
  • All items (except tote bags) are half-price on Sunday!

They accept cash, checks or major credit cards.  It’s sponsored by Friends of the Library (FOL). Proceeds go toward helping the public library do its good work for the community.  The folks of FOL pledge a minimum of $100,000 to the library each year, and most of that is raised by their book sales.  Charleston County currently has 16 public libraries and more on the way. The sale takes place at the Omar Shrine Auditorium at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant.  It’s located at 176 Patriots Point Road, an easy drive from all our rental homes South Carolina, both Isle of Palms vacation rentals and Folly Beach house rentals Charleston SC.  It’s going on today, Friday October 13th  from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; tomorrow (Saturday, October 14th) from 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m., then on Sunday it’s half-price day from 10:00 a.m. till 3:00 p.m. Here’s a link with more info on TBBS.
