In 2024, the fine folks at Islander 71 hosted a party centered around the world’s most famous horse race, and everyone was cordially invited. It’s a great chance to hang out with the locals in one of the Isle’s favorite spots, and the next best thing to being at Churchill Downs.
Here's hoping they bring it back in 2025! Stay tuned.
Here are the deets from 2024's party:
- Saturday, May 4th - The party lasts from 3:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. The race is at 6:27 p.m., come for as little or as long as you like;
- Free to attend:
- Complimentary valet parking;
- Huge 14” TV screen to watch the race;
- Live MC during the race;
- Woodford Bourbon drink specials;
- Mint Juleps, Horseshoe Margaritas, Southern specialties like Betty Jean’s Famous Crab Cakes and Shrimp & Grits;
- Live Music with DJ Mike C;
- Be sure to don your finest attire – and elaborate hats for the ladies! - because there will be a Best Dressed Contest with prizes.
- Prizes for Best Dressed Man, Best Dressed Female, and Best Dressed Couple!
Islander 71 is located at the IOP Marina, where 41st Avenue meets the Intracoastal Waterway.
